After spending many weeks entrenched in the fascinating landfarer culture, there is an important question I must ask! However, to ask for such grave knowledge and give nothing in return would be poor form indeed, so before I ask, I shall tell you the sad story of Atlantis's dark past ( Read more... )

Sixteen years ago?

Second Impact. A meteor came hurtling towards Earth. Would have wiped out everything if it wasn't for a machine known as HALO. But something screwed up and it caused more damage than what it should have...

A meteor? I see! But what was this HALO you speak of?

It was a massive Super Robot that was designed to destroy the meteor. The captain of this ship was its pilot, but something went wrong. Something happened to him that caused the ship's AI to take over and attempt to destroy the meteor itself. In the end, it destroyed it, but the backlash and the broken up pieces ravaged the Earth.

I had no idea that such a legendary figure was commanding the White Chalice!

...And you can breathe underwater? How?

The answer is simple: We can't!

So you live in domed cities under the sea? That's vaguely like space colonies, complete with the threat of dying horribly if the outer shell is broken.

Hmm, and all this time I thought Atlanteans are going to be a modified species or something... But you're exactly like us surface dwellers, huh?

Not exactly the same! I may not be able to breathe water, but I can hold my breath for up to an hour!

It is the most dire of stories, for a giant meteor and a weapon that was supposed to stop it worked in unison to ensure Earth's ruin! Ah, the memories of that frightful day remain in my heart even now...

I wonder... could this be the treachery that Gaederius spoke of?

It was not a work of a human being though... unless a conspiracy is afoot! Could it be that, even now, the details of that cataclysm are shrouded in mystery?

But this machine, the HALO, was made by humans, was it not?

You hear stories or legends like this... It's a little unbelievable.

Even to me, it is little more than a distant tale... but the truth of my home's location beneath the waves is irrefutable!

You say so, and you're here so it must be true. But...

You'd think it'd get easier to believe these things with as long as I've been here. Not to mention things I've even seen myself to be true. Still...

Really?

That's awesome story! I've been on land and on space, but I've never been under water. Apparently the world is indeed bigger than I thought.

Sorry that I can't help you about what happened 16 years ago. I was just a tiny tot back then. I was barely even able to wipe my own ass.
