That's because they watched too much Starvengers.

A holodrama? Something I should watch to get the necessary cultural background?

Only if you have a particular craving for cheesy (but enjoyable) kids' cartoons that were loosely based on real events and enrage people who actually participated in these events. Otherwise, just ask people for elaboration.

someone show him the battletech cartoon, which actually exists in universe an_alpha_wolf April 26 2012, 02:14:21 UTC
No, then. I would hate to have my actions turned into a bad holo by a future generation...

[Laura watches the screen - and Resnick - in silent consternation for a few minutes before speaking up.]

...Cultural research?

[He looks back at Laura and flashes her a wolfish (natch) grin.]

Aff. Do you know these shows?

Some of them. [Not the more recent ones, of course...]

...I want to say they're not really representative, but then I start worrying that maybe they are. Or are you interested in a particular topic?

[He looks embarrassed for a fraction of a second but quickly suppresses it. After what happened the other night with Adette, he wants to know how freeborn relationships work in more detail.]

All of it. There are so many differences and I am afraid of giving offense if I do not have a thorough background. Will you stay and help me? [Pick a sitcom/romcom, they are watching that.]

Uh... because there's an intimidation factor, a warning, and most of the time it's just fucking awesome.

Also, there's always something you can do with a head. Can't figure out where the fuck the girl went with the Hyperion's fist as a wrecking ball...

[Well he can't rightly argue with that. Clanners posture at each other over the comm channel all the time.] I would prefer a clear comm channel, but if you must...

Are you seriously suggesting we use HALO's head as a flail?

Around here, you'll NEVER get that. You'd may as well just shut it off if you want radio silence... And even then... some people have speakers. [[Not really implying one of the Adventus Generals, but, that too.]]

I'm not suggesting it, but it's completely an option. Considering the influx of machines we get in here... just having a trophy is kinda stupid... Well, a trophy that big. You'd have done better taking Lans's skull if you wanted that...

I would like to but then I would miss the important communications.

That head is as big as most mech's torsos. A skull would make a fine trophy but it is much too small to be seen from a distance. The head of a mech of that size would strike fear into our enemies if they saw it on our bow though.

Not sure on the others, but in our case, it's a built-in security measure. Voice recognition software, along with genetic locks, and all other sorts of things to make sure nobody can just hack our Megazord.

Well I cannot fault you for that. Please, switch off your comm first though. It gets...difficult to concentrate.

Incidentally were you the mechwarrior who sent your mech into a diving roll during the battle?

We'll do the best we can. We've also got to keep comms open to communicate with other zords or anyone else on our side. Make sure that others know what we're doing.

Yeah, that was us. We tend to move quickly and as much as possible in battle, to try to reduce the amount of damage we get or a city gets. Doesn't always work out for us.

Perhaps we can assign it its own channel.

I have never seen a mech move with such agility...

When I was a pilot, a lot of my machine's weapon systems were voice activated. After a while it just becomes a habit.

Well I cannot fault that. Turn off your comm first, though.

[What a rude jerk he can be sometimes.]

Don't tell me about it. I quit piloting years ago.

You stopped piloting...voluntarily?
