IRC instructions

In cases of AIM instability rendering AIM chat unusable for mission logging, the mods may choose to log the mission using Internet Relay Chat (IRC) instead. The following are instructions for entering the appropriate IRC channels using either the web browser client Mibbit (recommended for ease of use) or the standalone client for Windows mIRC (recommended if you want to be prepared to do this on a regular basis).

Using Mibbit

1) Using your web browser of choice, go to http://www.mibbit.com/chat/
2) Select Esper [webirc] from the "IRC" dropdown
3) Enter your alias of choice in the "Nick" field. Note: this needs to be something fairly distinctive, not just "Steve", or IRC will boot you for having a duplicate name. Your AIM screen name or LiveJournal handle should suffice.
4) Enter #srwugooc in the "Channel" field. Remember to add the #.
5) This will open two additional tabs within the tab that's showing the main mibbit console. One is a general EsperNet console and the other our registered OOC chatroom, which will serve the same purpose as the srwugooc AIM chat.
6) Follow mod instructions from there to enter the mission chat. Usually, typing "/j #srwugmission(mission number)" is all you'll need to do, but wait and make sure the mod has the channel set up correctly first.

Using mIRC

0) Before using mIRC, you'll need to download the client from http://www.mirc.com/get.html and install it. Registration is optional.
1) Run mIRC. It should automatically give you a Connect option. If not, use the menu in the program to go to File > Select Server
2) Select "Connect" from the menu on the left hand side and enter your name and email address (lying is okay), as well as your Nickname and an alternative Nickname (see the mibbit instructions for guidelines). If you already have a server window open and you want to stay there, say if you're using IRC for another chat, be sure to mark the "New Server Window" checkbox. Do not click the "Connect" button yet.
3) Don't click Connect yet.
4) Select "Servers" from the menu on the left hand side and select EsperNet from the menu on the right hand side. Click Select.
5) Now go back to "Connect" option on the left-hand menu and click the "Connect" button. Note: in the future, mIRC will save your settings so you can start with this step.
6) mIRC should give you a list of Channels. Enter srwugooc (no #) in the dialog box and click "Join" if it does. If it doesn't, type /j #srwugooc (with #) into the console that appears.
7) Follow mod instructions from there to enter the mission chat. Usually, typing "/j #srwugmission(mission number)" is all you'll need to do, but wait and make sure the mod has the channel set up correctly first.

And that's all there is to it.
