Dean thought the most frustrating thing ever was dealing with drunk Cas. Since he died he's learned that is far from the truth. The most frustrating thing ever is watching his brother spiral down like this and not being able to do a damn thing about it. It takes concentration and he has to recall some skills that he learned the first time he was a ghost but Dean takes the whiskey bottle Sam's been using as a security blanket and smashes it against a wall.

Well...okay more dramatic than he'd intended but that was sort of what ghosts did, wasn't it? Dramatic.

Well that gives him something to think about and really he should have seen it.

Alright so he's not really okay but he's not dead either. It's a step up.

Sam understands that much, so he nods his head, "Yeah. Of course, no problem." And then the moment we've all been waiting for. "Look, Dean, I'm. I'm so sorry. About all of this. It's all my fault. If I had just..left Jessica alone," he lowers his head again, "If I had just been down there with you. None of this would've happened. I'm sorry, Dean." For the time being, Sam's glad Dean's not corporeal or else he's pretty sure he'd be hitting him right now.

Not being corporeal doesn't stop him from pushing Sam fairly hard. It just takes more effort.

Sam laughs weakly, "If that's your punch, then you're losing your touch, big brother," a short pause, "We're gonna fix you. I promise. I'll find a way."

Does it get a little colder in the room? Maybe.

He laughs again, this time with a little more conviction. It's..more than a good feeling, to be joking with Dean again. It feels like it's been ages. "Whatever, man. I'm keeping a line of salt in front of my room."

Sam just gets silence for a moment. That's not funny. Finally he spells out:

"Cas isn't," Sam starts, faltering a bit. He exhales slowly, then starts again. "I think Cas has been avoiding us. You...left, right when his memories came back, and ever since then, he's been really distant. I think he really needs you, Dean."

There's a long moment before Dean starts moving the pointer around the board.

"Alright." A short moment of hesitation. "Be careful, Dean. We don't know what could happen. To you."

And then he settles in sort of on the couch next to Sam. Creepy? Probably. Cold yeah that too but Dean figures Sam could use the reassurance that he's still there even if it is in the form of cold and creepy.

He's about to open his mouth to say something, something stupid and embarrassing about how he's not alone or something like that. But Dean beats him to it. His presence is cold, and not being able to see him drive Sam insane, but just knowing he's there, really there, it's just about enough to make him cry from relief. But he won't. He just smiles quietly instead. He whispers, more to himself than anything else, "We'll be okay."

The cold spot shifts a bit and the tiles rearrange themselves some more spelling out:

A-L-W-A-Y-S A-R-E

Then the cold spot settles back in place.
