I had a similar experience when a physiotherapist taught me not to lock my knees when I'm standing. I had to be hyper conscious about it for a few months, but now it's like second nature. I even have issues with some yoga positions where I'm supposed to lock the knees. Hell no. I'm keeping a slight bend in my knees at all times, thank you very much.

Crazy, isn't it?

I wanted to ask you for cold weather advice. I'm going to be in Stockholm Feb 3-8. I expect that I won't be spending a serious amount of time outside - taxis from my hotel to the conference center and meals, that sort of thing. I can layer compression pants that I wear to work out in under jeans, have a heavy coat with a hood I bought for Moscow and plan to layer blouses and sweaters. I have light pashminas and medium weight wool caps. I was planning to just wear hiking boots for the most part since I'm just going to be hanging out with geeks in casual settings. As a California girl with no serious experience with cold or snow, will that be enough? I feel like such a dork for asking, but I've never had to deal with real, serious cold. Even when I was in Moscow a couple of years ago, it never dipped below freezing during the daytime, and it was April, so the days were a lot longer than I expect them to be in Sweden. Help? :)

You really only have to worry about the time you spend outdoors. Hotels, conference centers and such are all built for cold weather, with excellent central heating. Bring a good coat and warm shoes, gloves, scarves and perhaps a hat, but indoors? Wear what you normally wear, maybe bring a pashmina. Now, Stockholm is generally colder than Malmö, but I wouldn't worry too much.

What's your flight itinerary?

I'm flying in via Chicago and then Frankfurt, arrive Sunday morning. Head back Thursday morning via Oslo and New Jersey. I'm staying at the Radisson Blu Waterfront in Stockholm.

Also, I've been trying to walk wider all day (I have issues with sciatica and various other "dear god I'm old and fat" issues), and it's SO HARD. It might feel good though, I haven't decided.
