I just came home after a crazy first day of enrollment: frozen lines, canceled classes, beautiful lunchtime panoramic mountaintop views of the entire city with friends over lunch, a premiere screening of Quantum of Solace- which blew my mind and cost $2.5 million dollars for each running minute, I read- with my favorite aunt Goko and my favorite ( Read more... )

day out, uni, behold the family, politics, good day, the social life, enrollment

I dropped down from the high of the results after hearing that unless the remaining absentee votes swing the results, Prop 8 passed.

One step forward for one group, one step back for another. :(

With over 60% of people in their teens and 20s voting against Prop 8, it's not a step back as much as it is a big speed bump. :)

This is unfortunately all I think about right now also. Time to start protesting, no? I mean, the civil rights movement lived off of court decisions, not ballot propositions. The majority can't be expected to give the minority equal (per capita obviously) time/space/rights/whatever.

We American's are feeling a bit smug ourselves. Of course Prop 8 in California is keeping us humble. Guess America is only up for 1 big change at a time. Still, it's a start, especially with a new President that even mentions gays in his acceptance speech.

yeah. speaking a little optimistically, i don't think it's that big of a problem, not when the youngest of the voters voted against it, with a majority. things are changing. :)

Even some of the GOP sites I read (know your enemies) they say that it's a losing battle and should be the standard in 20 years. They just keep hoping to change the constitution so that it will be harder to make that change.

Omg, the energy here is crazy. Random people are smiling and hugging each other as if we ALL won.

Yes, prop 8 passed. It's been a bittersweet day.
