I can believe it! I've seen some incrediblely wounded squirrels heal and bounce back, too. They'se tough critters!

I've witnessed similar first hand. I watched a mother squirrel act as bait for a cat that was getting too close to the little ones. Moma led cat on a chase, then suddenly leapt straight up and landed on the cat as it passed under her and let at it with tooth and claw. Cat didn't know what hit it.
