History.
Oh my God; I care so little I almost passed out.
Bellatrix is the eldest of the Black children. Born to Cygnus and Druella Black, she has two younger sisters, Andromeda and Narcissa, and two younger cousins, Sirius and Regulus. For most of her younger life, Bellatrix tormented and teased her siblings and her cousins, while learning from her father and uncle methods of magic not taught at the school she would later attend. If Bellatrix were a 'normal' child, she'd be one of those girls picking on puppies and squashing bugs.
Raised in the strict pureblood family, Bellatrix was sorted into Slytherin when she attended Hogwarts, excelling at Potions and Transfigurations, while at the same time learning yet more curses and hexes at home under the tutelage of her father. She is a witch of prodigious ability, as demonstrated by all her victories in duels against others. Although her family were not actively involved in the Dark Lord Voldemort’s schemes or members of his Death Eaters, they were sympathetic to his cause, and Bellatrix showed promise of becoming most enamoured in his cause, her standing, background and family ties all being a perfect ground work for becoming a Death Eater. While attending Hogwarts, however, Bellatrix portrayed the air of an 'innocent' young mind soaking up what her Professors taught.
Shortly after her Graduation, Bellatrix was engaged to Rudolphus Lestrange, an old schoolmate from another old, pureblooded family. With her wedding date already set for shortly after her 21st birthday, Bellatrix proceeded to casually learn yet more Dark Arts while awaiting her chance to join with the Dark Lord and assist in the purification of the Wizarding race.

Outwardly, Bellatrix is a brash, arrogant and devious woman with a thirst for power and a mind corrupted with the blood supremacy preachings of an old, noble pureblooded family. Dark and rather devious, Bellatrix has a natural evil about her. Her wit is sharp and demeaning to those she counts as below her and most of her 'friendships' are based with ulterior motives. She is somewhat standoffish, but she is rather manipulative, and will do what it takes to get what she wants and needs.
Inwardly, Bellatrix isn't terribly different. She doesn't house any guilt for her actions, nor does she perceive them as wrong. In her mind she is better than those around her, she is a pureblooded witch from a strong, noble family and as such deserves the recognition for being such. Her psyche is most definitely damaged. She's a twisted young woman who takes pleasure and satisfaction in causing hurt and pain in others without remorse or guilt. It's possible that her own blood has already set her up for her psychological break that triggers the onset of and deterioration of her mental health; with a powerful, obsessive and manic personality to begin with, psychosis only furthers her outward power.
Incredibly well spoken, as a young woman of extremely old fashioned upbringing, Bellatrix is refined in her use of language, and often uses it to cut people down. She's used to the finer things in life because it's simply what she's always lived with; money, superiority and power.

Misc.
Bellatrix is an exceptionally talented witch. Her true source of skill is the Dark Arts, her abilities hindered only by her own knowledge. With unmatched skills in duelling, Bellatrix has a sharp wit and quick reflexes in a battle and quickly learns and utilises her opponents weaknesses. As with her school training, Bellatrix is also very adept at both Potions and Transfiguration. While her abilities in brewing may not be easily accessed in Paradise, her Transfiguration skills will.
Bellatrix's magic is tied very securely to her own strength and emotions. Although she can outdo herself by using too much magic, a simple rest for some time will build her power back up and she will be able again. Her magic is also a source of strength, and for Bella, a sense of being.
