It let me use the old settings. I think that is always the best choice when it comes to web designers messing with things we use.

Same here. When I had logged in and then clicked on "Post " and the comp box came up, there was a "Change back to old settings" option---I took it---and a request for feedback, which I ignored and probably oughtn't have done.
The older settings feel easier on the eyes.

You can switch back to the old layout this way:

"In the new home page at the top right, there is that "post in blog" thing, then there is a space, and then there is that round circle that is a search icon. CLICK ON THAT EMPTY SPACE in between the blog and search thingys and it will bring up that welcome to the new blah blah message and at the bottom of that pop up is the go to old style. TA DA!!"
