Applying for grad school is a nightmare. Finding ones you will not hate? What programs are you looking for? Are you going to one where you are moving?
You're going to need GRE scores, most likely, along with letters of reccommendation (sealed) and official undergrad scores (also sealed). It's a good idea to get these ASAP and with the undergrad scores, buy a few more copies than you need.
Don't freak out. Grad school is full of morons, inducted by people who might as well be throwing darts at boards. I did not get into the school I will be going to in two weeks on my first attempt. My second attempt looked damn near like my first attempt, and I got in.
Inexplicable voodoo, man.
(also you have commented on things and I have not replied because I am tehsux. Please interpret my silence as overwhelming awe at your awesome, because it's pretty much always true.)
I don't know yet. D: I am basically going to be moving wherever I end up going to grad school, and am going to do my best to drag Baco in tow.
I am trying to get a head start! And by "head start" I mean... doing it six months before applications are due instead of two weeks before applications are due? I'm looking for entomology programs (so, er, I completely expect no one on LJ will have any recommendations) with an advisor that actually cares about me as a person (instead of a series of papers and experiments and free labor). And one that will hopefully allow me to do forensic experiments! I AM NOT ASKING MUCH. >_>
Oh yeah, letters of recommendation. I forgot about those. Is the GRE hard? Also, buying more copies than I need = noted.
I'm surrounded by science grad students, but I have no idea what English/literature grad students do. (...I am just assuming that's what you are, so if I'm wrong it's okay to kick me in the shins

COME TO UNIVERSITY OF MARYLAND YOU CAN GET A GRAD DEGREE IN BEEKEEPING I KNOW YOU HAVE ALWAYS WANTED TO KEEP BEES. BRING BACO, SHE CAN ALSO BE COVERED IN BEES.
Louise focused on studying for a high math score and not caring as much on the verbal on her GRE since she was economics, and I imagine you'll be the same as you're in science. (Of course, you don't want to bomb the verbal.) She said it was basically like the SATs, and it's worth investing into those books that walk you through them and give practice tests, although I think I know of some online sites that do the same thing. I quizzed her with notecards (this was the infamous "there was a stint standing in the middle of the road" incident) and it was not so bad.
I'll ask some more of my smart friends about their grad application experiences. I have NOT done the grad school thing, and thus can only urge you to come here because it would be awesome.
I am so crossing my fingers for Maryland. I AM TOTALLY WILLING TO BE COVERED IN BEES if it means I get regular Thorne time. Plus: all the honey we can eat!!
Pack very slowly over an extended period of time, starting with the things you don't really need often (or at all -- though uh, those are easier to just get rid of).
That's...really the only moving advice I have. I hate moving. The actual act of. I do like going to new places and the whole unpacking and making a place MINE, but I HAAAATE the actual process of moving. And I'm clueless about grad schools. Blargh.
That is an excellent idea. Maybe I'll start with most of my books, since I don't think I'll have any free reading time this semester. I think I got rid of most of my unneeded stuff this summer during the garage sale, but I'm a little terrified there might be unknown boxes lurking in dark corners, ready to attack at ANY MOMENT. (Much like Barrowman's bud! But less disturbing

Unfortunately for you, all my moving has been pretty much OKAY LETS PUT ALL MY STUFF IN THE CAR AND DRIVE FOR FOR A WHILE BEFORE UNLOADING IT AT THE OTHER END, because the two points were actually very close to each other. I recommend copious usage of cardboard boxes and duct tape.
!!! I never replied to this! AUGH. This was such a helpful comment and I am totally coming back to reference this while I'm doing everything that needs to be done.
Seriously, thank you so, so much for your advice! (I even had to go show it to Baco and flail about how detailed and helpful it was!)
Also, your suggestions about FAFSA et al. have definitely been noted. That business was so frustrating last time!

I also do not know how your country's grad thingies work! So here's a picture of Kermit the Frog dressed as Sweeney Todd.
I AM USELESS.

DOES YOUR COUNTRY HAVE ANY GOOD ENTOMOLOGY PROGRAMS
I am not sure why I'm asking, because I don't think I could afford to move all the way to Australia, but man it would be awesome.
