Posts like that one, by Vivian, make it SO hard for me to decide whether I'd rather kill MYSELF, or kill HER.

I seriously cannot read essays like that anymore -- I can't. It is physically damaging to me, emotionally and psychologically, to know that people that mean, that cruel, that judgemental live in the world, all around me, and that they are the MAJORITY. It is when I remember that they exist that I start being unable to leave my apartment, and unable to look at a mirror or get out of bed.

I thought that some of the comments raised some good points, but...yeah, I know what you mean.

It's hard to explain to someone who's never been overweight how difficult it is to lose weight or to just feel good about yourself.

As always, you can't change people's minds. :-\

By the way, I hope you know that I have tremendous respect for you and certainly didn't post that to be mean-spirited.

Re: "fat pride"

I got about two paragraphs in and had to stop, take a deep breth, and count to ten before I started reading again. I can't STAND it when skinny people think that all it is to be fat is overeating, all it takes is a little excercise, if only fat people weren't all so fucking lazy and stupid we'd be skinny people too. It doesn't WORK that way. I've been overweight since I was five years old, regardless of how much I eat or don't eat and how much excercise I do or don't get. Just as her metabolism is hyperactive, mine is shit, and that doesn't give her the right to think bad things about me!

Of course, you didn't deserve the brunt of this rant, she did. But still. ARGH.

Actually, by posting the link, I was hoping that some of you more eloquent, passionate folk would share your stories and set her straight. But I also know that you can't change people's mind about this subject. Their minds are made up.

Heh, I went and ranted at her anyway. :-P I don't think we got anywhere, in the end, but at least opinions have been expressed.
