I'm just a drifter.

Thursday evening, I moved into a new flat in the Vinohrady neighborhood of Prague 2. Or, more simply, a flat with an internet connection and a washing machine. Although there were a few solutions to the lack of internet in my last flat, they largely required me signing a contract for a year or more, and I didn't think that made a whole lot of ( Read more... )

i don't think i could live with people i don't know. i'm very private and i have a tendency toward paranoia. if i knew someone was emptying my trash and/or making my bed, then i know someone's been in my apartment and that would WEIRD ME OUT.

glad you found a new flat that suits you better. :)

Did you have roommates in college? My freshman year, I lived with a girl I didn't know, so I sort of feel like "been there, done that." Actually, even living with friends can be Drama Central, as I found out my sophomore year. But our problems were problems of not communicating and ignoring things that bothered us so, even though we were friends, we were behaving like strangers.

Your icon is gorgeous; what is that?

For the toilet, open up the tank and try moving the little part on the chain that holds it afloat. Not the big bulb, but the little buoyant thing that controls when the flap opens and closes.

I'm glad this flat is working out better for you!

Oh, and you should move the floaty thing up the chain so the flap closes all the way, thus eliminating the running.

Thanks for the suggestions, but what would you do if you can't get the lid off of the tank? The flusher is kind of like a button the top and it's keeping everything locked in place. I can sort of slide the lid a bit diagonally so I can see a wee bit inside but I think I may have made matters worse by doing that. ALTHOUGH, perhaps if I tried that again and had your instructions, I could pull the floaty thing up. I just wish I could see in better.

As the woman you're subletting from when she visits again. She'll know.

Wow, it sounds like you've been very busy from the start. I hope everything goes well for you! :D

(Also: what kind of wine were they drinking at the party?)

Thanks so much, and what an excellent question! I'm embarrassed to say that I have no idea what they were drinking. :( They offered us something to drink: wine or water and it felt too imposing to take the wine so we only had water, thus not getting close enough to the wine to identify it. But it'd be worth knowing what the French drink, eh?

LOL to the made bed and emptied trash can. That really sucks that she was going in there, but is also quite funny.

Your flat hunting sounds quite involved. The one with the French people sounds adorable, but I know what you mean, I don't think I'd be able to live there either...though the bath tubs would really try to convince me.

Thank you for making such an amusing post :) I hope you're doing okay out there.

The flat with the French people was truly one of the most lovely apartments I have ever been in, but I knew immediately that I wouldn't fit in with those people. And I knew they'd always be speaking French to each other and, Caroline the optimist said that was great because then I'd learn French but I knew I'd just be paranoid that they were talking about me. :P

You always have the best stories to tell! I think it mostly stems from your ability to tell them so well. I foresee many great entries coming to us from Prague, and I hope you find the happiness and sense of self that you need while you are there.
