Anti-Semitism in Guinea Pig Community

i will defend [Adolf Hitler] if you speak ill of him. he was a great leader and only did what his country wanted...most Germans in the late 1800's thought the Jews were the problem, but do the history books ever tell you that? no, they wouldn't, they need someone to blame.

In the guinea pigs community?! Damn.

I really don't understand how people can have such warped views.

Yeah, she named her guinea pig Adolf after him. I never would've objected to the name but other people saw the connection and called her out. Hilarity ensued. :)

...Actually, not enough hilarity ensued because she didn't come back and defend herself. She's probably used to this.

Boy...I don't even know where to BEGIN addressing the wrongness of her statement -- which has so many wrongnesses built into it...but also, why expend the effort? Neo-Nazi punks, white supremacists, Hitler youth -- they are all TRYING to get a rise out of people. They WANT that hysterical attention. It is what feeds them. If we don't feed their dysfunction, they lose.

Have you seen the movie, "The Believer"? SO fascinating.

You're absolutely right. I wrote a brief comment in the original post saying that it's ok to find him interesting--but not to defend him and his ideas. Other than that, I'm staying clear of this one.

And The Believer was amazing and completely fascinating.

I was considering this the other day; with the way that those who were around during WW2 are dying of old age, there's going to be a whole lot more "second guessing of the Holocaust" going on in the future. It's a sad thought.

Maybe on some level it's good that something as horrific as The Holocaust will seem to our children too extraordinary to have ever happened (6 million Jews exterminated before it could be stopped? How can that be?). But if this means that it'll be easier to deny, then I don't even want to think about it. :(

That's the thing about history and why I think it's so utterly important in any society. If we collectively forget what happens when things go wrong, we're doomed to repeat those things.
