It's good you had that conversation with your friend. And while I have nothing against mushy private posts, I think your artwork is great so channeling your affection with that sounds good to me.
Whether you got accepted or not I hope you can work out what you want to do. It sounds like it could be a positive thing if you are selected, especially the reduced commute.
