Sasuke had been wanting to train for a few days now, but only now had actually had the spare time to do it. Kusanagi in hand, he stopped short when he saw that the Room of Requirement was already occupied, as the door had formed. He edged forward and gently eased the door open.
Of all people--of all people!--it had to be Professor Kuchiki who was using the Room. Not only that, oh no, he was also practicing swordplay--and though Sasuke was loath to admit anything complimentary about Professor Kuchiki, he was pretty good. Strike that, very good.
Sasuke gritted his teeth. Most of the free time he'd been unable to set aside had been used on that Wizarding Government essay for Byakuya, and now he had to take away this, too? Sasuke's grip tightened on the sheath, and for a moment, he entertained fantasies of walking in and duelling the professor to the death. Just for fun.
While there was no question of Byakuya's great power as a wizard, he preferred to bend his magic towards the subtle - he rarely used his wand for anything except spells requiring great precision. As such, although the magic on Sebonzakura worked better if controlled by a wand, he practised simply bending the sword to his will with his mind, for the moment. It required a great deal of concentration and as such was a great asset in his quest to clear his mind.
And then the door opened.
Byakuya didn't react - he seldom did, after all. Finishing the current exercise with Senbonzakura in its current form, held out his hand and allowed the sword to coalesce again. Will his back still turned to the door, he inspected the weapon.
"Uchiha," he said simply. His sword had held up well to the spell. He hadn't expected anything less. Turning around, he took in the boy in the doorway. "I trust you have permission for that weapon."
"Of course, sir," Sasuke said, as frostily polite as he always was with Professor Kuchiki. "I have a copy of the signed form in my dormitory if you want to see it." Translation: Would you like me to shove it up your tight rectum, Professor?
Byakuya raised one eyebrow very slightly. He was well aware of the Uchiha boy's dislike for him, and however coldly polite he thought he was being, he had a long way to go before he could impress Kuchiki Byakuya. "I would," he replied evenly. "However, the rules do not require it of you, so I will not ask it of you. I will enquire with you head of house at a later time."
And having done all that was required of him a teacher, Byakuya returned his attention to Senbonzakura.
