Had Ashe known that her office would be populated that day by unsavory guests, she would have picked up and moved places. As it was, she was still exceptionally angry over the confrontation with Professor Godot, so when she heard that sickly sweet voice, she nearly jumped out of her skin.

Shivers raced down the professor's spine as she turned to face Lady Belladonna, the ghost of Slytherin House.

"What is it that you want?" she asked, voice cold.

"Is that any way to speak to an old friend, sweet one?" The ghost recoiled the hand that had been reaching to Ashelia, as if hurt. "You are so unkind today."

Belladonna drifted closer carefully observing the little girl before her. So tense, so tightly wound, hardly unusual in one so precocious and arrogant as Ashelia, and yet. There was something different, something in her manner that had been shifting and boiling for so long now...

"Whatever is the matter? I would be of any help that I can."

Belladonna's voice would always give Ashe the shivers and now was no different. She didn't back down from the ghost's attentions, but neither did she make a move to tell the "good" lady that she would prefer not to be bothered today. She wasn't stupid enough to give the ghost any other reasons to try to tear her down.

The words for her responses were chosen carefully for now so she didn't make matters worse. "Nothing is wrong," came the answer as she avoided the first few sentences spoken to her. "I am simply tired."

The way her shoulders and back tensed as she stood a little straighter would let anyone know that things were far from okay.

Belladonna caught the tensing muscles and smoothly moved over to Ashelia, resting an ethereal hand against her back in some mockery of comfort. "Oh, sweetheart... I know you too well for such a thing to pull a veil over my eyes."

Inwardly, she delighted. This was going to be just what she needed, just what they all needed, no doubt... perhaps a chance to bring things back to how they are meant to be...

"Did that little whore do something again? I know how troublesome she can be."

Rangiku barely paused to lock her office before rushing down to Ashe’s, wand and a bottle of sake in hand. She rushed past students, apologizing as she ran and dodging one of her fellow professors and she made her way to her best friend’s office. The sake was more for herself, a safety net because she had no idea what had just happened to Ashe, but if the Gryffindor needed it…

She cut off her own scattered lines of thought when she reached the door. Breathe. Resting her hand on the door, Rangiku pushed it open.

“Ashe?”

Ashe had relocated herself to one of the couches in her office, but she looked like a wreck, an absolute mess and nothing at all like the collected figure she usually was. She was curled up on one end, pillow clutched in her arms, journal held in her hands. Tear stains covered her cheeks and her eyes were red.

The Transfiguration professor didn't even look up when she heard her office door open. She was too focused on what had happened today. Rangiku wasn't the only one who had to remind herself to breathe on occasion.

Ashe didn't answer her name, focusing inward and blocking everything else out for the moment. Rangiku didn't need to be here, didn't need to see her like this.

The sight of Ashe looking like that, so broken looking, made Rangiku's chest constrict. She pulled the door closed and crossed the space between them. Not even stopping to set down the bottle she wrapped her arms around Ashe. Consequences be damned - her friend needed comfort, whether she would acknowledged that need or not. "Ashe," the blonde repeated. "It's okay, Ashe." Various soothing murmurs crossed her lips as she held the other woman.

What happened here?

It took a while before Ashe would react, a while for Rangiku's words and actions to penetrate through the Gryffindor's defenses, but eventually it happened and Ashe slowly reached up to wrap her arms loosely around the Hufflepuff's shoulders.

Shemhazai the kitten finally peered out from under a table on the far side of the office. She'd taken refuge there when Godot had first come in, sensing her mistress' anger. Meowing cautiously, the kitten padded over before jumping up into Ashe's lap, surprising her enough to make her jump and release her hold on Rangiku.

Fortunately, this also seemed to snap Ashe out of her closed-off stupor, though she focused on the cat and not on her best friend's presence in her office. "Shemhazai's growing," she murmured in an attempt to avoid answering questions about what had happened today.

Shalice had read Ashe's journal, and while the other professor had said she was okay, the psychic knew that was definitely not the case. She could feel Ashe's emotional outpouring even through all her shields.

So she'd done what she knew how to do best. She grabbed a few bottles of wine, some good cheese, and limped her way to Ashelia's office. It had taken her some time. The spell she'd used against the ghost had weakened her considerably, and she was sore all over. But Ashe was a friend, and she seemed in need of liquid help.

"I come bearing wine!" she called out, opening the door without bothering to knock. "We could both use it!" She stopped, noticing Rangiku had beat her there. Of course she had. Ran wasn't moving like an ancient old woman. "Okay, all three of us could use it, I bet!" she said, managing a smile.

Ashe took the cup with a murmured 'thank you' to Rangiku before putting it to her lips and taking a small sip. She wasn't going to get completely trashed she hoped, but she needed something to take the edge off the absolute horror she'd just faced.

She had just gone to take a second sip when the door burst open for Shalice, who was carting around wine. The Gryffindor managed a smile at the fact that two of her closest friends were willing to help her out when she needed it most. Hopefully, this would turn out okay.

Shalice was moving awkwardly and Ashe had to assume that was from the stupid ghost. Lady Belladonna had happened across two women today who were not about to take whatever she dished out anymore. "Welcome to the party, Shalice," she murmured with a slight smile, eyes still red from where she'd been crying earlier.

Glancing over her shoulder, Rangiku's mouth tilted up into a slight smile at the sight of Psyche, before slipping into a look of concern as she noticed the limp. "Ehh, not you too?" She asked, brow creased. The blonde looked between her two friends, standing up to steer Psyche towards the location on the couch that had just been hers.

"What the hell happened?" Rangiku took the wine from Shalice, she set it on the table next to the sake, and grabbed another glass. Her expression was markedly more serious as she handed it to the redhead and sat herself on the floor in front of the other two. "If it was Godot I'll beat the crap out of him," she swore. "See how much he likes the toasterface with a black eye."

Hufflepuff through and through. You could do whatever you liked to Rangiku and she'd brush it off, but you did not mess with her friends.

"Thanks, Ashe," Shalice said softly, noting the aftereffects of what must of been Ashelia crying. The psychic's blood boiled. It was one thing to hurt her, but it was entirely another to hurt her friends. All the Gryffindor chivalry in her demanded that ghost would have to pay, and soon ( ... )
