Hallway on the 4th floor | Alyss and Kyp | ClosedmisplacedqueenOctober 29 2010, 04:32:21 UTC
Alyss kept herself tucked away in a corner, watching the troll intently in case anything were to change. Or another troll decided to make its way down this hallway as well. With a soft sigh, the lights the troll was beginning to grow bored of pulsed and changed colors rapidly, pulling the creature back in. How simple it was, for the moment. But for now, it was neither being harmed or harming any of the students, and that was the most important aspect.
It rammed its head--her head, according to the student--into the wall yet again to chase the light, and she forced herself to bite back a sigh, teeth pressed into her bottom lip. Harming itself was not the same as her harming it, in any case.
Kyp stared for a moment at the headless chicken that popped out of thin air for a moment, watched in vague amusement aa it ran around, somehow managing to squawk despite being without a head. It didn't seem to be too concerned by its current state, however, so Kyp ignored it and carried on towards the corridor he had recognised Alyss as being in.
He came up behind the troll just as it slammed its head into the wall. "It might be more humanitarian of us if we just knock it out," he observed idly, in lieu of a greeting.
Clasping her hands in front of her, she imagined the lights going in a different direction, further from the wall so that the thing would stop trying to destroy the castle. She glanced over at Kyp, resisting the urge to shrug and remain quiet before her eyes shifted back to the troll. "Yes, but then what? Will we just carry it out of the castle and leave it in the forest, only for it to wake up and come rampaging back? Someone could get hurt."
He smiled at her; it looked genuine, even if it wasn't. "It's not exactly rampaging now, is it?" he pointed out as the thing tried eating the lights again. "If it was the only one, we could probably keep it as a pet or something, but it turns out there's an infestation of them and I'd say the castle could probably use someone who's not about to start screaming curses at every troll they come across." Focussing slightly, he reached into what passed as a mind for the thing, winced a bit at the echoing, empty space before he switched it off. The troll didn't even have time to grunt in surprise before it stumbled to the floor, eyes still open.
Gryffindor Tower then... everywhere I suppose - Open - Res is the biggest troll here, you kidding?highbornlamentOctober 29 2010, 05:16:52 UTC
For once, Gryffindor tower was quiet. Peaceful. The sounds of the many students romping back and forth at all hours of the day and night - and don't think she didn't hear the kids going about even well after lights out - was replaced by the soothing sound of... nothing. Sylvanas and her thoughts... and her big old book on necromancy.
... And then a sound, worse than the trudging of a hundred thousand students reluctant to go to class trundled up the stairs...
Linefacing even harder than before at the interruption, she stood, grabbing her bow and a few arrows out of habit and instinct, and swung the door open... to find herself face-to-face with a ten foot tall..
... troll.
Somewhere, she could feel the fates and the gods laughing and mocking her...
... And then the troll fell over, dead, an arrow buried deep into one of its eyes.
Looked like she had some more exterminating to do.
Integra couldn't ignore the hard bump of the gigantic troll hitting the floor in the center of the tower, and she was on her feet and out into the room in an instant, wand at the ready. She found herself on the opposite side of the troll carcass from Sylvanas, who still had her bow at the ready. The arrow buried deep in the troll's forehead told her exactly what had just occurred.
Wasting no time Integra indicated towards the door.
"They've made it this far, we're sure to find more nearby."
A student. Most teachers might've tried to send Integra away, tried to get her to round up other students and keep them somewhere safe. Sylvanas was not 'most teachers', however.
"Yes," short and curt, Sylvanas nodded her head, turning a bit toward the door the girl had indicated. "I can only hope there are not too many of them, especially with the majority of the student body down at the ball. It will make clearing the halls a task."
She began walking toward the door, accio-ing her quiver and more arrows. "Kill or incapacitate, it matters not, but we need to work quickly."
Relieved not to have to waste time arguing her involvement, Integra nodded swiftly, following behind. Attending the ball had never been on her to do list, and now she was relieved that she might be of some use, instead of trapped down with the other students.
"Very well," she said, as they moved out into the hallway.
Dungeons | Aerith and Lightning | Semi-Openradiant_flowersOctober 29 2010, 07:35:09 UTC
She just couldn't bring herself to harm the trolls. Yes, they were big and scary, but did they deserve to die for that? Aerith didn't think so. It wasn't their fault that they had been born different. (And if anyone could understand being different, Aerith could.) Thus, while others were either hiding or fighting, she was roaming the dungeons, humming quietly under her breath.
"Come on... Don't be scared..." she looked around the next corner, holding the glowing tip of her wand aloft, "I won't hurt you. Surely you don't like being inside..."
Then again, trolls did like caves, didn't they? Aerith hadn't quite thought this through.
She knew that voice. Composing herself after a brief frown, she rounded the corner and observed the scene before her. Lightning was fighting a troll. She should have expected that. Yet...
"Don't hurt it!" she actually moved to intercept the woman, wanting to defend the troll, "There are other ways!"
Which was all well and good until the troll made a swipe at the flower-girl. Aerith found herself splayed on the floor, wincing as her whole body ached. Pushing herself up onto her knees, she started chanting under her breath, forming a defensive barrier around herself and Lightning.
"Yeah, I am," Zell replied. Grateful he'd kept his wand on him, he drew it out and kept his eye on the oblivious troll. He was proficient enough in wandless magic and had a steely punch to back it up, but he doubted the professor would approve of that method, and frankly... he wasn't sure he wanted to test his luck punching a troll in the face today. Besides, he knew his place on a battlefield and right now, Leoben was giving the orders.
"Got a plan, Professor? I'll back you up one-hundred percent."
"Good," Leoben replied, taking out his own wand. "It's been some time since I last dealt with a troll, but stunning spells and the like might work."
At the very least, they would get the troll's attention and go from there. Leoben was just sort of making this up as he went along, and relying on what patterns he could see.
And Zell couldn't say he'd actually dealt with one. First time for everything, though, right? Kind of exciting! ...Almost.
"I read that trolls are really resistant to Stunners... even with two of us castin', it might just make it mad. Maybe we should try the Freezing Charm first?" he suggested.
"I think you may be right about that, actually," Leoben conceded. "A freezing charm is probably the best place to start."
The kitchen was already a mess, so there wasn't much of a worry for causing more damage. And the worst the charm could do was make the troll smarter. Although that didn't seem very likely.
Belle had no idea what was going on. On minute she was chaperoning the party with her fellow staff and the next minute, there was an announcement regarding Trolls. Yes, Trolls. In Hogwarts. A small part of her mind supposed that it shouldn't come as a shock concerning the fact that anything was likely possible, and the Inferni incident that had occurred barely months before. But who would of let them in? Did they need letting in? Trolls weren't normally malicious, but then why did so many seem angry at this moment? Did someone attack them and this is where they fled

Nobu sat heavily at a table, huffing in agitation as he pulled feathers from his face--incidentally having gobs of honey stick to his fingers, which he then was forced to wipe onto his leather pants. This was, by the best of definitions, not a very good night for the young Hufflepuff at all.
Especially since he just did the longest sprint of his life to flee from a troll.
Seriously. The things on his list to do before he ended up dying at a very old age had never included turning tail and running from a giant troll that grunted at him in angry tones.
When the doors to the library flew open in that manner, his hand smacked to his face, the honey making a noise as he tumbled from his chair, heart racing.
As Belle entered the library, the first thing that caught her eye was a rather large mess that spanned near ... everywhere. Oh, the books didn't seem to be too much out of place, but there was something vaguely sticky looking everywhere. One of the tricks the Headmaster had designed, she realized, and made a mental note to chew him out have a talk with him about pranks of this nature in her the library. This was really no way to treat books and a horrible manner of behaving in a library!
Movement on her far right caught her attention and pushed the mess out of her mind, as she trained her wand upon the object and hurried forward. The thought that it could of been a troll was there, but the worry that it was an injured student took precedent. Keeping close to the wall, she quickly edged her way over and around the corner in a fluid motion. When her eyes came upon Nobu on the floor, she immediately knelt down to his side.
"Are you alright?!",she asked, concern filling her voice. A spell from her wand began banishing the honey away.
Nobu groaned, shutting his eyes and pretending that he really had not just done that. He had... tipped himself over... and fallen out of a chair. Yeah, real manly. Man of the Year. His hands pressed to his face, too late remembering the honey and feathers, which brought about another groan.
Well, at least this night just couldn't get any worse, right?
"Me? I'm fine. I think I hit my head..." He paused, pulling his hands from his face. "But Nana kicks hard than that, so I'm sure I'll live." And then the honey was gone, and he breathed a sigh of relief, to embarrassed by the fall to be embarrassed that he didn't think of even using magic to help him out.

Old age, not sixteen!
