If Harry were the type of man to look on the bright side, he might perhaps be able to find something enjoyable about this current exercise in breaking the laws of gravity. Like how it was letting him spend time with a good friend, or how it was distracting him from losing his girlfriend and one of his closest friends in a short span of time, or even how after falling off that damn broom eight times he was beginning to forget about the older injuries that were still bothering him.

"Well, maybe if the morons who decided that flight was best achieved via a cleaning implement had seen fit to include a handle bar or a seat belt, or hell a seat, then I wouldn't feel the need to cling to it for dear life."

Harry wasn't really an optimistic person.

Kairi was an eternal optimist-- or at least, she tried her best to be. Her senpai was gone, the Zombie attack had hurt several of her close friends, she was nowhere near as strong enough as she'd like to be, and the school was still slowly recovering from everything.

But the sun was out, the winds were down, and the practice field was open-- a perfect day to learn how to fly. Things weren't all doom and gloomy.

She laughed at Harry's sour observation, noting that at least as long as his sarcasm lasted he was still doing okay. She swooped down on her broom, coming level with Harry's and reaching out to steady him. She caught his arm in one hand, and touched the tip of the shaky broomstick with her other.

"I think it can kinda feel when you're uncertain or stiff, and it mirrors your intentions. That's why you've gotta relax if you wanna fly smoothly." The broom slowly stilled under her touch, and she grinned. "See?"

The day Harry's sarcasm failed him was very likely the day he simply gave up on life.

Watching Kairi swoop down with such easy grace, a grace that inspired self reflection on his own clumsy and, dare he say it, buffoonish efforts at flight. Namely that attempting it was a bad idea on his part. A more significant event, however, passed without notice for him, namely the lack of any sort of flinch when Kairi placed her hand upon his.

Beauty having soothed the savage broom, Harry sighed and shook his head, "If you want me to relax I'm going to need sunglasses, two shots of whiskey, and a shot of morphine." Amazing how he could face down ancient ghosts, dragons, and inferi without flinching, but the simple act of flight was what made Harry freeze up. "I think it likes you better."

Her grace was a hard-won, exceedingly practiced grace-- and she was completely confident Harry could earn his too, if he tried hard enough. Hey, this time he hadn't even fallen off yet!

Kairi noticed that simple acceptance of letting her get close to him without drawing up his defenses. Having gotten rather used to his walls, it was surprising when they didn't immediately raise higher at her approach. She smiled, but didn't comment.

"I could probably find sunglasses," She offered cheerfully. She could get the morphine too, or the wizardly medical equivalent, but she'd most likely get kicked out of the Healing program. "It's probably not the best idea to impair your vision right now, though."

A laugh. "It's a broom, Harry. It really doesn't have a mind of it's own. It takes it's cues from you." A pause, and she let go of the object, but not Harry's arm. Miraculously, it stayed still. "Okay. Let's try rising again. Slowly. Ready?"
