Al was out early that morning hoping to get some practice in before classes. He'd been told that he needed to work on his elemental magic- it was good, generally, but when he was emotional things tended to go to hell. He'd been known to set things on fire when he just wanted to levitate them, for starters. He knew it was something he HAD to get control of, because it was completely possible that he could hurt someone. He couldn't let that happen.

When Komachi arrived, Al was attempting to cast various spells at some randomly placed boxes a bit of a distance away. There was a stuffed bear next to him that was enchanted to taunt him, get him riled up. The only problem was that Komachi surprised him, so in combination with the teddy, when she showed up practically glued to his side, he sort of... blew up one of the boxes. He stared at it for a moment, watching fiery pieces of the box come down to the ground. Then he looked at her.

"Um. Hi."

Komachi gasped when her new buddy--and why she felt the need to stand so close was still really escaping her at the moment--exploded one of the nearby boxes. Her eyes grew wide, jaw dropping as she stared at the flaming debris, a little worried about what would happen if the both of them continued to stare at the fire...

And also incredibly impressed with how cool that was.

"Wow!" She turned her head so that she was looking up at Al, grinning wide at him. "That was cool. You're really good at that!"

He blinked at Komachi, then back at the spot where the box had been. Well, it might've been cool... if he'd actually intended for it to explode. Whoops. Usually things either set fire or froze, he'd never actually blown anything up like that before. "....thanks," he said. "It wasn't supposed to happen, though."

Al silenced the teddy bear for the time being and turned to Komachi. "You're out and about awfully early. What brings you out here?"

Explosions were explosion, and intentional or not, Komachi still thought that was the coolest thing. "What was supposed to happen instead?" Because whatever it was, she seemed pretty doubtful that it would have been as awesome as an explosion.

"Huh? Oh!" She continued to grin, rubbing the back of her head awkwardly as she stared up at him. "Well, I usually get up this early! I don't know why I'm out here though... I just started walking and here I am."
