"O-oh no!" he exclaimed, dropping his bag and dashing toward the poor helpless creature.

But first he's gonna end up running into that pitfall trap.
You know, the one directly in the path leading to the puppy that's covered up. And filled with bugs. Mostly ants and spiders but still, there's a lot of em in there.

"Heeeey!" he exclaimed, flailing as bugs crawled all over him, some of them squishing under him. No one could keep him from helping a poor defenseless puppy!
For a moment it was silent... and then there were thunderous BOOMs as Finny started punching at the dirt, pounding out a path for him to climb up.

Ah crap, now Xigbar had to hide the puppy decoy before the brat got out of the hole. Which sounds like it's gonna be soon. So jumping out of the tree, Xigbar tried as quickly as he could to get his damn painting and run before Finnian got out and noticed what was going on.
Then again, if he got caught, Xigbar could lie.

A... puppy?
He frowned. It looked injured.
...eventually, he moved a bit closer. Slowly, because he didn't really have an idea of what he was doing -- but he couldn't just leave it there if it really was a injured dog, right? Maybe it even belonged to one of the kids. Besides, it was just a puppy. Puppies weren't exactly the most ferocious things Cloud encountered in his life before.

Plan B was a giant log tied to some rope that will swing towards the poor sucker who trips the hidden trigger.
You know, the same trigger that Cloud just stepped on.

A small sound of surprise escaped the man, but he was quick in his reaction. The blond ducked and rolled out of the way before the log could smack him full on... but it did manage to nick his shoulder before he got down. Not much of anything to someone tough as Cloud, but good effort, Xigbar! His feathers were most certainly a little ruffled, if nothing else.
Frowning, the blond got to his feet again, eyes not even watching the log anymore but instead searching the surrounding area because well, he had the feeling trees weren't much for pranksters.

He honestly thought the trap hole would be enough for the whole day but, lesson learned. Made the guy realize if he wanted to keep messing with people, he was going to need plan Bs more often. Maybe a few Cs and Ds as well.
He just folded his hands behind his head and leaned back against the tree trunk, sitting quietly in his tree branch till the puppy was discovered to be a fake.
