"You have a point," Ashe said, setting down her quill. "We have the opportunity to double our number, though, and I do believe they will decide to aid us."

She began writing again, having pushed aside her school work in favor of the ledgers and contracts from Dalmasca. They just made so much more sense. They were also completely devoid of spelling and grammatical errors. Jesus, who had taught these children to write?

"To be perfectly honest, I am almost more interested in simply making sure they stay out of our way."

Ashe sighed, putting down the document she had been reading. She looked at the pile of school work and picked up one of the papers. She took a second to look at it, then held it out for Basch, a look of utter despair on her face.

It was the beginnings of Usagi's paper.

"How, Basch? How?"

A soft knock on the door proceeded the brother's not-so-grand entrance.

Sam was polite as always, waiting to be allowed in before opening the door. He smiled slightly at Ashe, who looked faintly haggard behind her desk with a stack of papers in front of her. A nod to Basch, standing so tall and guarded near the desk. Those two were definitely not what they claimed to be, and Sam was pretty sure they weren't hunters. So that left either allies of some other sort or--

Well, let's hope they were allies.

He gave his brother a look, one that said behave, please, dammit, I think these guys are okay. He had briefed Dean on what little he knew of these two, including the interesting conversation he and Ashe had discussed during the staff conference. He had, of course, researched both of them as thoroughly as possible before the meeting, but research only got one so far.
