Tifa hadn't seen Cloud for seven years. Seven years ago he'd graduated, and she hadn't heard a word from him since. Not a letter by owl, not a visit...nothing. She admittedly had been all over the place since her graduation...but she'd spent a whole year at school without any contact from Cloud beforehand.
She was angry, and hurt, and relieved...there was so much going on that she couldn't do much but walk toward the Astronomy Tower in quick, purposeful strides, her mouth set into a harsh line. She marched right in without preamble, and her breath caught to see her childhood friend -- older now, and taller, with a stronger set to his shoulders, but it was Cloud nonetheless. She was happy he had his back turned so she could compose herself. She wasn't going to cry; she'd done enough of that to last a lifetime.
"Cloud." She was proud to note that her voice stayed steady.
He knew, the moment she entered the room, that he had to face her. But he stayed with his back to her until she spoke his name -- Tifa wasn't the only one who needed a few seconds to get her head together for this.
"Hey." Cloud turned then, still not facing her completely, but certainly making the effort to engage in this conversation with her. The rigidness in his body language lingered even despite his uncrossing of his arms. "You're..." Now what? She's what, Cloud? He sighed. It was clear he didn't know what to do, but if the softness in his strangely glowing eyes was any indication, he was trying. "How have you been, Tifa?"
How had she been? Seven years of thinking he was dead, and that was the only question she got? Tifa's hand curled into a fist at her side, and if she was a more temperamental person, she'd hit him. But the look in his eyes made her pause, and she slumped her shoulders. It looked as if all of the fight had left her. "Hey."
She took a few steps toward him and shook her head. "I've been...I've been okay." This was a lie, but he looked so sad... "It's been busy for me, all these years. I spent some time looking for you, and then..." I gave up. "I worked in some other places. Bartending...some volunteer work. I helped out at an orphanage for a couple of years before I decided to come back here." She blinked and studied his face. "Your eyes...what happened?" Where have you been, what happened to you?

Listening to her speak about the things she had done in her life, it was... a little strange, but something of a comfort as well. Still... had it really been seven years? Had time gone really by so fast
