As always, Byakuya began the class at the exact second it was meant to, and no later. And, as always, any students who were late would receive a detention.
"Each student should have their text books and parchment at the ready," he instructed, voice flat and faintly terrifying. "We are continuing from the previous lesson on the International Statute of Wizarding Secrecy. Before you open your texts or consult previous notes, I will have a student inform the class of when and for what reason the Statute was initially laid down."

Knowing the law thoroughly was crucial to knowing how to effectively bend the rules and find the loopholes in the law. That's what his uncle had taught him when encouraging him to take Law as a course. Prior to his unfortunate and violent death, Orochimaru's father had been an Auror, and Orochimaru hoped that perhaps he would have been happy to see his son taking an interest in studying magical law.
He raised his hand and quietly waited to be called on. With a more lax professor, he might have simply stated the answer out loud. Professor Kuchiki was not a lax professor.

"Your homework was a two foot long essay on the differences between Muggle and Wizarding Consumer Law. Marks will, as ever, be removed for unnecessarily large handwriting. You will hand this essay in now; those of you who have not completed it will receive a detention." Byakuya made no allowances for the chaos that often interrupted Hogwarts class time, although he made certain to offer after-hours classes.

"The Wizengamot is the high court of law and parliament of wizarding Britain," he intoned. "It has the power to pass and sanction laws that affect the governing of all witches and wizards. Continuing from the previous lesson on trials presided over by the Wizengamot, what is one right recited from the Wizengamot Charter of Rights?"
OOC: The first ten or so minutes is spent on a recap of the previous lesson /o/ So your students should already know this.

"Your text books are to remain in your bags," was the first thing Byakuya said, before flicking his wand. A stack of papers on his desk flew off and distributed themselves amongst the students - a pop quiz. "You have twenty minutes to complete this test, at which point I will recall the papers to me. You will then have a further twenty minutes to research any questions which you were unable to answer, or believe you have answered incorrectly. At the end of this period, I will then call upon students to answer those questions they either failed to answer, or answered incorrectly. If you fail to supply a correct answer, the question will be assigned for homework with a minimum word limit of two hundred."
A pause. "You may begin."
OOC: ACTUAL QUESTIONS WILL BE SUPPLIED LATER AT THE ASKING QUESTION OUT LOUD PART /o/ FEEL FREE TO FUDGE OVER THE CONTENTS OF THE QUIZ AND. STUFF. 8Db

"As there are laws pertaining to how various countries and wizarding societies interact with each other, there are laws that are passed by a higher governing body, that each country that is a member of it is obliged to abide by." A pause, as he surveyed the classroom. "Is any one aware of the name of this governing body?

Renji was on time and slid into his seat towards the front. Law, unlike most classes, was something he was pretty good at because, well, it didn't involve magic much. He knew it wasn't exactly required for becoming an auror, but he felt it would be a great help in his future career.
He actually knew the answer to this and raised his hand.

It wasn't hard to be on time, it was just the effort to do so was something Ren didn't show much of. But, it was Byakuya who was the professor and Ren already had enough detentions lined up until his grand children's graduation. He didn't want to push it too much further.
If he actually did the work, he would be a moderate student too instead of one who was failing but, sometimes that's how it worked and Ren had absolutely no interest in taking Law.
...and yet he was.
Of course, he didn't have the answer to the question other than presumably it had the word 'wizards' in it. He just sat there quietly, noting that Renji raised his hand to answer.
Law was something that Cree actually enjoyed. Not that she particular enjoyed who taught it, but just the subject itself. Or maybe that was just her fascination with crime dramas on television. The addiction was the reason why she had chosen to take this class, and she did...
Well enough to stay under the radar, at least.
And staying under the radar meant that she didn't enjoy answering questions. Kuchiki intimidated her. Renji could answer all the questions he wanted.
