Teresa stood at the front of the classroom, offering each student no more than a raised eyebrow as they took their seats and looked expectantly up at her. Some students, she noted, must have been aware of her reputation, for they did everything possible to avoid making eye contact while trying to appear brave.
Hufflepuffs, probably.
"Today you'll be learning a basic Stunning Spell," she said. "It's one of the simplest spells, but also one of the most useful. You'll find over the course of this class that the most useful spells are the simple ones. The flashy ones waste time and energy." Drawing her wand almost lazily, she demonstrated the motion needed to cast it, the wand leaving a glowing trail in its wake, which hung in the air. "Practice the motion."
She estimated maybe a quarter of them would have it right by the end of the class.

Leaning back in her chair with her feet up on her desk, Teresa did not bother to stand as the students began to trickle into the room. Well, scurry was more like it. Like little mice, sneaking furtive glances in her direction. She smiled to herself, just barely.
When the seats were all filled, she gave them their assignment. "Read pages three-hundred fifty-four to three-hundred seventy-nine in your texts, and write a six-hundred word essay on the Transylvanian Troggle, due tomorrow. Begin now."
Not that she had any intention of reading the things.
"And no talking," she said, casting a brief hex at a pair of students more interested in socializing than making sure she didn't turn them into something horrible for the day. Really, after she'd kept that one boy as a toad in the tank on her desk for the duration of the class last week, she would think they'd have learned by now not to cross her.

Kazumi frowned slightly, but hey, who was she to argue with the teacher. She raised an eyebrow at the hexed students. Yep, definitely didn't want to cross this one. She could read and write essays on her own time OUTSIDE of class.
Couldn't or shouldn't they be doing more practical and hands-on things. With a sigh, Kazumi started flipping through the book to the proper page.

Harry wasn't so much scurrying or being furtive, as he was visibly irritated. This had been the once class he'd actually been good at, the one thing that let him know he was not a complete failure as a wizard, and now he was wasting his time writing essays he knew were not being read. This lack of actual training was what might get these kids killed, and the thought of that made him clench the book harder.

"Take out your wands and pair up," Teresa said with no preamble as soon as all the students had entered the room. She had spelled away the desks and covered the room with pillows, which signified one of her practical classes. "You'll be practicing combat spells and their counters

Seras gulped hard at the words of her Professor. More than anything she wanted to become an auror. This class was by far the most important, if she failed she could kiss her chances of following her dream. Thus far she had passed with decent marks, but she had little faith in her actual combat skills.
Glancing around the room, Seras really hoped she would find a good partner for today. For now, she simply watched as the students slid past her, not exactly one to seek someone out.
lol, have a Sasuke, Serasimpassive_eyesJanuary 7 2010, 22:17:03 UTC
In the shuffle, Sasuke ended up paired with some girl he'd never met before. This would be unlikely for most people after spending six years in a school, but for Sasuke, it happened often. Shutting himself in his dorm or the library year after year took its social toll.
Sasuke wasn't sure he was looking forward to dueling today. His old self loved it, took it incredibly seriously, but being paired off for sparring with someone he barely knew felt empty now. And the last time he'd dueled magically had...not ended well.
(He could feel the scars on his back tingle sometimes, a memory of pain and broken glass splintering through his mind.)
He said nothing to her, merely bowed and moved into position.
sorry for the slightly laetbazookaboobsJanuary 9 2010, 05:57:51 UTC
That was it? No, hello my name is.....? Just straight to work. She tried very hard not to sigh, it was a bit nerve-wracking, but perhaps it was better for her this way.
Nervously, Seras bowed in return and moved into position as well. For the most part, she looked serious as her wand stood at ready. "Y-you first?" suggested nervously, not wishing to initiate any sort of duel-like behavior against a class mate, assignment or not.
After ClasshimynameisgodJanuary 6 2010, 23:23:54 UTC
After classes were over for the day, Teresa settled everything back into place with a flick of her wand, and began to gather up her things. Typically out of the room as soon as all the students were gone, she was not one to stay in her classroom any longer than necessary.
If anyone came in now, they were likely to get the cold shoulder until they gave up and left. As if Teresa ever gave anyone anything else.
