Edward was not pleased about this dinner. He supposed he should go of course, being a Prefect and all, and not wanting to scrub the dungeons but just because of these things it didn't mean he didn't want to sit with a book.

In fact, that was exactly what Edward wanted to do.

So, he settled in at the end of the table, in the hopes that his attitude would project 'leave me alone' for a change, instead of 'bother me mercilessly' and cracked open a book. While he knew some of his housemates, they all knew each other much better and therefore he figured he would be left alone. Maybe.

The room was beginning to fill with fellow Slytherins, students and staff alike. Another quick survey indicated that all the pieces were in place, Ciel could leave whenever he wished. A faint smile appeared on his lips.

Best not to rush things. Leaving immediately would lead to suspicion and imply premeditation. Some socializing might be in order for good measure. His eye settled on a victim, a certain prefect, who seemed as thrilled about this dinner as Ciel was.

A book, He'd brought a book to a formal dinner? Edward's actions always exuded just how unrefined he truly was. With mild interest, Ciel confidentally strode over to the prefect to give him a quick lesson on etiquette.

"It's impolite to read a book while ignoring all of the guests..".

Of course, Ed didn't have formal clothing for the dinner, so he assumed his school uniform would suffice.

It took a moment for Ed to answer, as he'd been reading and he turned the page. "I'd rather be reading a book and oh look, I am." Edward answered and snapped his head up to look at Ciel and he frowned a little. "You're that kid who's been harassing me. What could you possibly want?"

Ciel's faint smile deepened into a smirk in response to Ed's reply, "Just offering you some friendly advice. You are a prefect afterall... you should be setting a good example..".

Upon closer inspection the young Slytherin frowned, Ed wasn't even wearing dress robes, typical.

For Goryo, school was often a nuisance, but it was still a bearable one. More often than not the pros of attending outweighed the cons, so he stifled the urge to pack up for home and stayed put. But it was times like these that tolerable came dangerously close to intolerable.

Goryo was not a social person. Mingling and making useless small talk were meaningless activities to him, so events such as this were always uncomfortable affairs. Even so, one awkward night was a welcome alternative to a month of menial labor, and eventually, after much deliberation, Goryo ended up sitting quietly at the table, fidgeting in his dress robes. He could only hope the night wouldn't last too long.

"You don't seem particularly comfortable."

It wasn't that Akito was taking pity on the newcomer, exactly, but she felt that if she would be there until dinner, she could at least make small talk, "House dinners can't be all bad, can they?"

After all, it was at least house exclusive.

Goryo gave a start, jolted out of his reverie. Someone was talking to him? He looked the girl up and down subtly. Well. It wouldn’t hurt to make a good first impression. Connections were important, after all.

“Ahahah, is that so?” he replied, smiling slightly. “To be frank, I’m not much for social situations. But I suppose you’re right. Might as well make the best of it, hmm?”

He rose from his seat and held out a hand, dropping his head slightly in a half-bow-old habits died hard. “Daranimaru Goryo, sixth year.”

[ooc- oh, um, aa-chan's crossdressing. otl should have mentioned that.]

"Pleasure to meet you. Akito Sohma, seventh year," she took his hand, bowing back (although it was noticeably more shallow, more of a brief nod) and motioning to the seat, "Mind if I sit next to you?"

Kurt inspected his deep green robes and picked off a speck of lint. The party seemed like such a drag. Everyone looked miserable and like they would rather be anywhere but there. They looked like he did when his father tried explaining the rules of football to him. He flicked the lint to the ground and took an empty seat.

He didn't feel like he was very liked amongst his Slytherin peers. Especially after all those times he styled hair of his classmates from other Houses. But he didn't care. If it got him free help with homework or chocolate frogs (delish!) he was going to do it.

Kurt surveyed the room for someone interesting to talk to and of course, someone interested in talking to him as well.

Hades face was set into a permanent frown as he sauntered into the Grand Ballroom, trying to remind himself why he was here in the first place-

-ooo, finger sandwiches. Couldn't go wrong with those.

Hades picked a few off of one of the silver trays, eating them in scarfs and licking his finger tips in an intentionally obnoxious manner. He eyed a rather prissy looking kid looking about the room with a critical stare.

"Oy, you with the coif, you know what the point of this little shindig is?" He asked around a mouthful of cucumbers.

Kurt turned his attention to his professor. Sure Professor Hades was one of the higher ups who Kurt was supposed to respect and show respect to and blah blah blah but something about the guy made Kurt comfortable speaking freely. Maybe the professor liked the banter.

"Coif? It's called hair," his eyes flickered over the flame on the other's head. Something I don't think you know about, he smiled wickedly to himself. He placed his elbow on the table and rested his chin in his hand. Obviously Professor Hades didn't care too much about proper table etiquette, Kurt looked distastefully at the crumbs around the other's fingers. "Don't you know what the point of this party is? So far I think it's only a form of torture. I see these people every day and not one of them has noted my new robes."

"Whatever you say, kiddo. But to me it looks like it's got enough goop in it to be more flammable than mine, and that's sayin' a lil something right there, don't you think?" Hades said quickly with a bit of a smirk, helping himself to a chair by the young brat.

"Is there ever a point to schmoozing? We say hey, we talk about the weather, yadda yadda yadda, next thing you know I'm givin you a pat on the back and you're asking me for wallet photos of the kids," Hades said with more than a hint of disdain, making a limp wristed rolling motion with his hand while he talked, "And hey, you gotta go look going for you kiddo, I wouldn't be too put out by the fact that more than a few people can't recognize a sharp dresser when they see one."

Zuko was not thrilled with the prospect of a Slytherin gettogether. Hell, if he weren't a Prefect, he wouldn't have even showed up in the first place. Never mind the fact that attendance was mandatory...

After offering Professor Holmes a curt nod and giving the area a quick once over, the 7th year chose a seat towards the end of the table, arms crossed and scowl on his face. A Biohazard doorhanger could not have portrayed 'Do Not Disturb' better.

Finding a corner to stand in the Slytherin watched the fellow attendees as if he was viewing an ant farm... with disgust.

More importantly...

Luxord had been gone for quite sometime.... just what was that kid telling him. Perhaps it was time to enact his master plan, and adjourn to his quarters. He grew weary of this dinner anyway...

Where did that demon of his get to anyway...?

He left his spot at the table in favor of walking toward his Master. Ciel looked absolutely aggravated. It was almost too perfekt. If it had been at all possible for him to tolerate this sorry excuse for a dinner, then Sebastian might have considered completely ignoring Ciel so that he may have the pleasure of watching him suffer.

But he could stand this no longer, and he wanted to leave just as quickly as his Master. He brushed by the boy, sure to cast a spell that would help the dander from his Kitten blow towards him. He smiled, continuing toward a small refreshment table spread with several drinks. Oh, it shouldn't be long now, ..

Finally. Ciel watched Sebastian motions carefully, wondering just what plan he'd come up with for getting him out of here. When he passed, Ciel thought nothing of it, merely tilting his head to give the other a questioning look.

They had discussed Ciel's faking an asthma attack, was that his cue? Hm-- the boy had no idea how to start. It would look foolish if he just randomly started coughing..

... An all too familiar tickle began attacking his nose. His throat involunteerily felt as if it might close up... that stratchy sensation. ..but this was impossible! His eye darted around the room looking for the culprit, for only one thing could trigger a reaction this swiftly.

Clamping his hands over his mouth, he tried to suppress the enivitable fit.

He blatantly ignored his Master, as it was not yet time to interfere. Pouring for himself, some wine, Sebastian turned to watch the scene unfolding before him. He smirked, locking gazes with his Master for but a minute. Oh, if he were to find out that this was his fault, he would surely be upset. But Ciel could not act, and if Sebastian were to have let him, then this would have turned disastrous in seconds. He took a sip of the drink, acting as though he didn't notice the concern flashing over his Master's face.
