Daryan had expected an explosion, yes. But honestly, it was not as bad as he had thought it would be-- yet. From what Alphonse had told him, Edward had quite the temper. "Edward, calm down. There is nothing to be upset about." He folded his arms, heaving a sigh as he stepped between the brothers. "Your brother is just looking to help you."
"Well...really, when I was younger we learned and we used to do it at home. It was really good for my muscles..and then I got hurt, but we sparred again as soon as I could. But when we came here we tried once, when I was in second year...just to get some exercise because I don't fly, but Al does. And we got stopped and in trouble for fighting." Edward reiterated. "That's about it. Although if I knew about the Room of Requirement back then we might have done it. We don't spar at home anymore either...we just sort of stopped."
Edward's fingers itched. He wanted to, he wanted to so badly. "I can't spar with you." He said finally. "I don't want to hurt you."
"It would actually be good, for the both of you. Not only would the two of you be getting exercise, but you would be able to release all of that pent up tension. But as you mentioned, you were asked to stop because you were fight. Well, it's a good thing that I don't believe in restricting fighting." He snickered, biting back the thunderous laughter that threatened to escape him. "Hurt me, ..? You must be kidding. I had to go through some rigorous training back when I used to be an officer, and becoming a Detective, no easy feat. I used to spar all the time. I stopped only when I came here as well. I don't think most of the Professor's here would want to fight with fists, instead, they'd rather use their words." He rolled his eyes. "Point is, you don't have to worry about hurting me."
"Yes I do." Edward said evenly before raised his right hand to his lips and bit the glove on it, tugging his hand out. Then he rolled up his left pantleg.
"I will hurt you. Maybe not on purpose, but I would. I don't even want to swing these at Al."
"Fine. You will hurt me. I can handle it Edward. You don't have to go worrying about me. I have been hit with plenty of things before. What do you think I used to do when some knife wielding maniac came at me-- Run away, ..? Ha!" He turned away, laughing, as he sat on the edge of his desk. "This is for you, not me. So, what do you say?"
Edward squirmed a bit. He couldn't decide if this was a good idea or not. Should he play it safe and reject the offer outright, or should he persue his desires.
"That is what I wanted to hear." He slid from the desk, walking around to take his seat, again. "But, we're going to have to discuss a time- and a location. Both of us will probably get into some trouble if we're caught. As you said, the other Professors aren't too fond of fighting." He blew out a sigh. "And maybe when we're done with each spar, you and I can just talk. That is why we're here, after all."
They were going to need a time and a location....and others couldn't catch them because they'd be in trouble. Edward shivered. Daryan was going to have to be alone with him and he didn't know how he felt about that, much less the fact they'd be touching, albeit in a hostile way.
Edward suddenly got very quiet as he thought about it, and a little pale. He wasn't sure he could do it. He hid his eyes in his bangs as he tried to puzzle through his feelings.
Al watched Ed carefully. His brother was predictable, after all, and easily readable. Ed often wore his feelings openly whether he realized it or not.
This, Al realized, could be a problem. It was the same reason he hadn't left Ed alone with Daryan for the first session. Not that he didn't trust Daryan. It was just that Ed... well, Ed was traumatized and might not be able to handle it.
He put a hand on Ed's shoulder softly. "I can come, Brother, if you want. Sounds like it would be fun to watch." Supportive, but not embarrassing.
"You know, the two of you could spar the first couple of times too. I don't exactly have to be the one to fight you. I can be a .. supervisor, of sorts." He nodded, looking to Alphonse, and then to Edward. "And as for the oh- so- discrete area, we could just go out onto the Quidditch field at night, either that, or very early in the morning." He leaned back in his chair, spiraling his finger in his hair. "And, when you're comfortable, you and I can fight."
"No way you get to be a supervisor! I'm going to take you down!" Edward shouted rather suddenly, determination in his eyes. "Night is better anyway, and the pitch has lights and stuff, because I don't want to miss seeing your face when I win!"
Al smiled, amused. That was Ed, alright. He nodded in return to Daryan. This was a good idea, and even though Ed hadn't acknowledged the offer, his sudden change in attitude implied acceptance. That was a good thing. Eventually, Ed would be able to have sessions alone without Al there. His brother would probably make more progress that way. Making him comfortable with Daryan, then, was the first step.
"Oh, are you, ..?" Daryan teased, a smile turning up on his lips. "Well, we'll just have to see, won't we." He picked up a scroll sitting on the desk, eyes skimming it over quickly. "Night it is. I'm sure we can light a small part of the field ourselves. I doubt that will bring much attention to anybody. Oh, and as for the fighting, we could always do a round robin. I don't always want to be the one to beat you down, Edward." He paused, grinning. "I'll let your brother have some fun too."
"But, back on track, when would be the best for the both of you? I know that you both have class, and I'm sure you both put some time and effort into studying."
"Oh don't worry." Edward said almost kindly but he was smirking which was never good.
"I will always have time to take you down." Edward did always love a challenge and he was excited enough about the sparring. It was almost as good as Christmas.
"Probably Friday or Saturday nights would be better," Al said, rolling his eyes at his brother. "That way we don't have to worry about class in the morning.
