[Lilith's crisp, elegant handwriting flows onto the page.]

A question, my fellow classmates, if you would care to indulge me. Ah, yes. Professors are welcome to answer as well.

Do you believe there is a such thing as absolute good and absolute evil?

And in a related vein, what defines good or evil to you, on a personal level? [a moment, and ( Read more... )

I am aware of that, thank you.

I was only wondering if you had any other, less general reasons behind your beliefs.

[Mulan pauses, presses her quill to the paper a couple of times, leaving small dots of ink and then begins to write. This is something she has been intimately familiar with, after all.]

I...think there are absolutes in life, in general. However, I also think there are degrees and such things as redemption and second chances. It is all on a case by case basis, however.

There are people who will kill for no other reason than to kill, to brutally destroy something they just don't agree with for the simple fact that it is different. Some who will just because they are greedy, they do not need what others have, but want it because they do not and somehow they think they deserve them. There are also people who have to kill for they have no other choice but to do so in effort to protect ( ... )

I don't believe in absolute good and evil. I just believe that there are confused people who don't understand or who are lost. If that makes any sense what so ever.

I believe that such concepts are merely subjective depending upon who is viewing them. What could be construed as 'true evil' to one person could become an ideal philosophy to another.

It's why there are such things as serial killers who then spawn off mimics of their killing styles or ideals. Why wars begin. Why the concept of Original Sin began, but it is an ideal then embraced by the very religion that shuns it; or at least the religion is used as convenient excuse for committing it.

And do I have thoughts on what is good and evil? Of course I do. There's a dichotomy with them - I believe you have to have one of them to be able to define the other. And I'm sure that there are some definitions of good and evil I have that people will agree with, and yet more that people will not agree with; conversely, I am sure there are ideals they have that I do not believe fit into which category they have.

... Such is human nature.

[Pause]

Mn. But what my ideals are as to good and evil are a much harder concept to express as unfortunately ( ... )
