I was reading a book in the Library earlier and I came across an interesting passage. Did you know that Medieval knights used to torture their enemies by tying them up so that their feet were a foot above the ground?

Each day, they would try to touch the ground and find that they were unable to reach it. Slowly, their hope would diminish into nothing. As they lost hope, their sanity left them as well.

That seems familiar.
