Does email count as text messaging? And what about phone calls? For example, I am 3,000 miles away from my family and while I prefer to communicate with them face-to-face, I am forced to communicate via phone or email. I don't text message them, ever.

That's a good point... but I guess we're just looking for a preference between those two.

So the question might better be asked: "If you COULD speak with your family, given those two methods... which would you prefer?"

Right, I already inferred that, but then when it comes to the second question I can't answer. I communicate neither face-to-face nor through text messaging, but I do communicate with them.

Oh! I'm sorry... so I perhaps should add another option that says "I only communicate with these people through other methods."
