Well, many of those who are seeking to ban it are seeking that as part of a larger initiative, as they don't think that the death penalty is humane in any cases. Which may be true, but at some point we have to draw a line between considerations of what would be ideally humane given ideal conditions, and what would be ideally practical under worst conditions, and stick to this line.
... Well, yes, that might be the least humane method of execution we've discussed so far, not to mention wasteful, unless perhaps you wanted to perform a mass-- but even then, chemicals...
