Good to see other people using the phrase "traveling companion." Clearly differentiates that role from "co-worker," "colleague," "secret lover" or whatever. That person may be one or all of those things, but for these purposes all you need to know is that they're along for the ride.

^_^ In my mind, I was substituting it for "friend," since, y'know, we aren't actually that close. And it also carried tones of "protector" and "body guard." He's looking out for me, making this trip a lot easier. (I'm all brave and independent and emancipated and whatever, but I am really glad I didn't have to travel here alone.)
