Today I saw:
A religious procession or parade, full of men carrying orange pennants and banners, beating drums, with the traffic backed up behind them for blocks.
A fruit seller with his table piled high with bright green watermelons.
Women in beautiful saris riding side-saddle on the backs of motorcycles.
A cow tied to a tree.
Muscular dogs with pert, triangular faces trotting along the sidewalks with their tongues lolling out.
A Honda Accord looking huge amidst the stream of tiny Indian cars and three-wheeled auto-rickshaws.
A herd of cattle in a dirt lot between buildings.
A cathedral encased in scaffolding built of stout branches lashed together with fibrous, brown rope.
A cow with sparkly streamers capped on the tips of its horns nonchalantly chewing its cud in the gutter.
Driving backwards down a one-way road to escape an impassable traffic jam, and later, the cause of the jam: a city bus spouting orange flames and gouts of black smoke.
A small storefront advertising mutton, with two skinless carcasses with stark white ribs hanging from the awning.
A poultry shop advertising live chickens for 65 rupees and dressed chickens for 85.
Stenciled white lettering on a blue wall stating plainly "STICK NO BILLS," and below it, beautiful script like fairytale writing that certainly said the same thing.
A military base with a jet on display.
A phalanx of troops with riot shields and batons.
Police officers in an intersection blowing whistles incessantly and waving their hands at the heedless traffic.
A warren of contiguous huts and tents, built out of remnants of walls and any materials at hand, covered over with tarps and pieces of fabric.
Everywhere advertisements.
Everywhere people.
Everywhere traffic.
