My guess. Money.

The guys that turned coat are kind sleazy. Kinda really sleazy. Espada is under investigation by the state Attorney General for misuse of campaign funds and Monserrate stabbed his girlfriend in the face with a broken bottle four days before Christmas 2008.

These two weren't going to vote in favor of gay marriage anyway. Rumor has it that that was their whole reason for defecting, but of course, it's way more complicated than that. It's got to be dirty deals as always.

Lots of New York Democrats are either opposed to gay marriage, or simply unwilling to stick their necks out for it. I did want it to come to a vote though, so that the cowards would be on record.

If it was about Gay Marriage, or solely about it, Diaz who has been the major force against it would have defected as well.

See the interview i posted up. Trust me.

And lots of Democrats and Republicans are for it or ambivelent... a vote would be nice but with this being the last few weeks there is just too much confusion on the floor to get anything done...

The only surprise is why Diaz didn't jump too. Duane was a moron for saying he had the votes on gay marriage when he was at least six votes shy. Smith is, and always has been, a moron. He deserved to lose the leadership. It will probably also help keep Monserrate and Espada out of prison (where they belong), as suddenly they are on the same side as their investigators...

Luckily, where I live, you don't have to worry about Democrats ever being in control. And even when they are, they are conservative. And probably corrupt. So, you know, we do our best to pretend Frankfort doesn't exist.
