Hi. You're on a friend's flist. Just wanted to say that if you're headed down here, don't bother with most of the North Is. because the South Is. is a whole lot more pretty. The Northland/Coromandel beaches are quite nice, but since you're headed to Tahiti...

Thanks for the tip! I can agree from experience, actually, because I was there from Jan-April 2009 and luckily started on the South Island and spent 2/3 of my time there, and was glad when I found out that I hadn't missed all that much on the North Island!

Yes, I admit, there are a few worthwhile places up North - White Is, the Northland rainforest, the Bay of Islands, Napier and Hastings...

That said, for people who haven't been here before and who have limited time, the South Is. is a good bet.

Yup, thus the term "back" down undah! ;) The first trip down undah is chronicled here. It covers my time in Australia too... but *blushes* ... I never did finish blogging about my last month in NZ. Lucky girl :) And I totally disagree re north island; I spent two weeks there and would have happily spent at least a month more. There is SHIT loads to see and do. Bay of Islands, Rotorua, Waitamo (my spiritual home, I swear to god!)...I know South is goregous but don't discount the north.

Nah, I'm not discounting the North (although I realize my reply to the above comment may have made it sound like that). I agree some of the best stuff is up there too! I could spend ages on both islands and never get bored, but I think if I had to choose one it would still be the South because it is less populated and touristy. :)
