Oh, this is gorgeous! I love your style, mystery author - the narrative voice is so consistent all the way through. I love the way siblings - and brothers in particular - have a resonance, and how he watches the Blacks and evaluates them according to his model of what each one's role should be. I also very much liked the use of nature, which flowed through the story and drew everything together, and Rabastan's willingess to share his secret with his brother but not step into the limelight - his brother's role - in front of his family.
This is a fascinating and thought-provoking look at what it means to be a brother. I've taught boys like this and you have nailed them. It's so good! Thank you!

I liked this a lot. The Lestranges are among my favourite rarely written characters, and I loved how you made Rabastan a real individual - with his own personality, magical power and thoughts, rather than part of the 'Lestrange brothers'.

Also loved how despite his individuality he sees himself as a part of his wizarding society, with a preordained place as 'second son' (great title, btw) and his admiration for Rodolphus. And I really admired his unspoken touch of pity for Sirius, who is made an outcast because the dynamics Rabastan takes for granted break down with the Blacks.

The last paragraph taking it all to Azkaban was excellent too.

You write the most exquisite fics you know? I love how you portrayed the relationship between Roddy and Rabastan, the childhood moment was adorable :) I also loved the stream metaphor and how you included others from the gang (Evan!). Very, very lovely <3
