Springtime_Gen Rules Post 2011

Jan 15, 2011 14:18

Welcome to this year's round of springtime_gen! This is your rules post, the sign-up post will follow right on its heels. Please read this post if you're planning to sign up :).

About Gen Fic

First off, gen is not the same as a G-rating! Gen means a story/art-work that doesn't focus primarily on pairings, sex or romance. Everything else is fair game - angst, drama, humour, darkfic, character study, action/adventure, you name it.

springtime_gen works the same way as all those great anonymous smut exchange comms - just without the smut. You sign up with a list of your favourite characters, genres and/or scenarios. Once signups are closed, you will get your assignment to create an anonymous gift for another participant. Someone else will, in turn, anonymously create a gift for you.

The Rules

1. AGE: There is no age limit. However, you'll have to indicate whether you're of age to read or view R-rated material. If you're a minor, the creator of your gift will be asked to rate it accordingly. (And please don't draw or write anything for your recipient that you wouldn't be allowed to read yourself, okay?)

2. RATINGS: If both you and your recipient are of age, all ratings from G to NC-17 are allowed.

3. WARNINGS: Authors and artists are asked to warn for things like violence, torture, foul language, sexual or disturbing content, AU-ness, severe angst, and whatever else you think may rub a gentle reader the wrong way. Warnings will be hidden to avoid spoilers.

3. LENGTH: All fics must be at least 1,000 words long. If you feel that there's nothing you can add to your story without damaging it, but you haven't met the minimum word count, please submit it to the mods for approval before the deadline. There's no upper limit as to length. Artwork, too, must reflect serious effort on part of the artist.

4. BETAS: Fics must be spell-checked and beta-read. If your story has major grammar and/or composition flaws, it will be returned to you for revision. The same goes for artwork. Please add the names of your beta-readers when you make your submission. To observe secrecy, we will abbreviate them to initials until after the reveals.

5. SECRECY: Remember, springtime_gen is a secret exchange. Please do not post your gift anywhere else before identities have been revealed. After the reveals, you can post wherever you like (and mentioning that it was written for this fest won't hurt, either).

6. STAND-ALONE WORKS, PLEASE: Writers must not submit fics that are related to other fan-works of theirs. All fan-works must be stand-alone.

7. POSTING: To maintain everyone's anonymity, all fics and art will be posted by the mods.

8. JOIN THE COMMUNITY: To make sure you catch modposts and updates, joining springtime_gen is mandatory.
