Prompt: Naruto, Sai/Naruto: Damsel in Distress - “Am I supposed to thank you now?”
And once again, he was caught…
Although interestingly it wasn’t Akatsuki this time.
He had no idea who this particular group was, from the dress and accent; he was guessing maybe Deep South, or maybe one of the western archipelagos.
Whoever they were, their sealing-style is worth crap!
Suspended from the ceiling up side down and trussed up like some prized game, Naruto would willingly admit that the seals that they had used to knock him out and suppress his chakra were both elegant and impressive-and considering some of the things he had seen during his time with Jiraiya, that was saying something.
The seal under construction below him on the other hand was absolute junk. The energy shunts went nowhere, the grounding points weren’t anchored properly, the filter and barrier setup was worse than anything he’d ever done, and to top it all off, they were trying to overlap an even-point seal on top of an odd-point seal.
Honestly, this was seal-casting, not brain surgery!
On the other hand, when they finally tried to active this thing, not only would it not even do anything, but it just might cancel out the seals on him! Which meant goodbye trussed-up-for-dinner, hello open-can-of-ass-whoop!
Drip
About time dammit.
A few wiggles later and Naruto had gotten a complete look at the cave. It had taken him a few moments to see it-what with the whacked out light and all-and what was it with the crazies and flickering torch light anyway? Couldn’t they use flashlights like the rest of humanity?
Letting go of his mental rant with a sigh that went completely ignored, Naruto passively watched the trails of ink sliding into the cavern. Flowing through cracks and crevices, flitting from shadow to shadow, unless you knew what to look for, the ink was easy to miss. Trickling in from the main entrance, from cracks in the wall, and even from the ceiling-which had produced the drip he had heard.
He had to hand it to Sai, the runt may have been a perpetual thorn in Naruto’s tail, but man had his control gone up lately.
Five minutes later and those in the cave excluding Naruto were either dead, unconscious, or tied up.
Down on the ground and looking at the seal, Naruto realized his estimate had been correct, best-case scenario it would have cancelled out the seals on him, worst-case the whole thing would have blown, what with the power collectors not even properly defined at all. Really, if they had just waited-
“I believe this makes the eighth time now, doesn’t it?” Naruto couldn’t help the twitch, I mean, he knew Sai had no social skills, but come on! Seeing the other teen's head tilt just a bit more, Naruto could help but snap at him.
“What, am I supposed to thank you now?”
This actually caused Sai to blink, as if the other had never considered this and needed to think is over.
“If you wish.” Giving another of his blank smiles, Sai walked over to see what Sakura was up to.
Naruto just facepalmed.
