Fullmetal Alchemist (Kimberly/Hawkeye)

Jul 26, 2007 05:17

Title: Only So Much
Author: Laylah
Rating: PG-13
Word count: ~1800
A/N: Not compliant with manga canon -- anime leaves the events of the war a lot more open to interpretation.
Summary: There's only so much one person can care, out here, without breaking under the strain. Sympathy is as precious a resource as water.

Only So Much )

alksdjflasdjf yes, definitely not your usual Kimberly, but still, so fascinating a take on him. And interesting to see him as NOT naturally the way he is. A weapon made, not born. prrr!

Thank you! I really like the fact that he's comfortable enough for me that I can experiment a bit. I'm glad it's a good time to read, too. ^^

Hee! That's always great, when you've got a character that you can take out of his usual context and STILL feel like you're writing him well. :)

...you know...i...i think that this might even be my prompt! o.O I had forgotten, but I think it is! <3!

Oh, yes. Also, ow. Poor Kimberly. Poor all of them, really.

This is such an interesting take on the character. ♥

<3 Thank you! It's totally not usual for me -- I'd hate to feel like I was excusing him for what he did/became, but exploring how it happened a little...yeah. ^^

There's definitely a difference between 'excusing' and 'exploring,' and I don't think you strayed too far there. (Well, also, I am generally unsatisfied with the idea that characters are Just Bad, so seeing this kind of transformation makes a lot of sense to me.)

Thank you! I think I've been reading the newspaper too much lately, and I had war on the brain.

Thank you! It's very different for me, but it was a neat experiment. ^^

A great take on Kimberly; I love the idea that he was once more innocent and you made it work so well. And Riza's characterization is great too.

Thank you! Like I said to Coyote, I'd hate to feel like I was excusing what he did at the end of the war (and afterward) -- but I'm never really satisfied with backstory where people were just Always Already Evil, either. ^^

No, I didn't feel like you were excusing it at all.

And it takes more work to show people as Not Always Evil but it's worth it for fics like this.
