Title: Sworn to Protect Author: Laylah Rating: PG? I fail. Warnings: Spoilers to Bur-Omisace; also, AU. Word count: ~1200 Prompt: Ashe/Drace - politics - the rising sun turns the sky to blood
My first instinct was some pre-game encounter, likely in Archades, but you've done that quite well already, and more recently puella_nerdii has as well, so I scrapped that beginning and started over. And now it's full of possibility!
the paragraph where she's considering what it would be like to have Drace as one of her captains just kills me. unf. even the implication of Drace teaching Ashe the stave means me = dead.
I think Ashe here is not so much oriented toward a gender as toward a type, that type being "badass devoted knight," and, well. Her Honor has that in spades. <3
...also, there should be AUs where everyone we like lives. *nods*
*prrr* Thank you! <3 Drace just, yeah. um. ohgod. She so utterly broke me. *points to icon keywords* And putting her in the same place with Ashe? mmmm. yes.
Couldn't help the Vossler moment, either, just. yeah. *rolls in the woe*
Oh, Drace. *swoon* If only canon had happened this way.
Seeing her through Ashe's eyes makes her competence and assurance and sheer unmitigated hotness stand out all the more. And I love the kiss-on-the-knuckles at the end.
Right? It's so much better. ...I mean, it screws up a lot of things for a lot of people, most notably Gabranth. but. Draaaaace.
I think possibly Ashe crushing on Drace is one of my favorite things today, and I would so love an excuse to see them sparring. Stripped of armor, brawling unarmed. Because that would be no pansy hair-pulling fight, no sir. unf. <3
Well, it is your birthday. ^^puella_nerdiiJuly 10 2007, 01:30:29 UTC
It has been too long since Ashe last fought like this, shorn of metal with only her fists for protection. The winds that cluster around Archades' central spire shoot straight through her arms and urge them to waver, but she holds her guard firm as Judge Drace's powerful fists assail her. (Turn to the left, use the momentum for a roundhouse kick, a voice in her head -- Vossler's, she thinks -- instructs.) Drace catches her leg before it reaches its target, and Ashe tries to plant her other foot in the dirt, scrabbles for a foothold, but then Drace twists and the world inverts itself and dirt cakes her mouth
