Yeeeeah, I definitely agree with the whole not-everyone's-cup-of-tea thing. It's an amazing experience live, but I tend to do a massive eyeroll when privileged theatre fans are all OMG THEY'RE SINGING ABOUT MY LIFE. Plus, Johnny's arc is fulfilling in the end, but I had little sympathy for him until he got his shit together.
The reason I fell in love with Michael Esper's performance was that he took this douchebag deadbeat dad character and made you feel sorry for him. At least, that's how I felt. I could see how he wanted to do well but it was just so overwhelming, and his fuckups led to some major regrets. Ugh I JUST LOVE HIM OKAY.
This is definitely not a musical I love for its plot alone, though I will beat people when they say there isn't one. :)
OVERALL I AM GLAD YOU HAD A NICE TIME AND FOUND SOME LOVELIES IN THE CAST (and can I join in on that threesome plz).
