Xander nearly choked on the bit of tomato he was eating and took a swig of water to ward off a coughing fit. Staring at Oz, he shook his head. “I can’t believe you just said that.”
“Neither can I, but then that’s part of the fun,” Oz replied, smiling serenely. “Every minute can be a surprise. It’s exciting.”

It is bittersweet, I agree. It was very tempting to let Xander settle, but he's got too much of a sense of duty to do it, and he still needs to find himself out of the shadows of other people before he settles. But you're right, as Oz said, who knows when they'll meet again.

Yes, I really wanted him to realise he needs to go out and find his feet. The fact that Oz might have given him a little nudge is neither here nor there! :)

Oz putting Xander on his path feels right and the analogy of the level is spot on and ideal for Xander.

I loved the idea that of all the people who could put our boy on the right path, Oz was the one person who wouldn't try to influence his decision, but would listen to him work it out for himself.
