Give me some sugar

Apr 24, 2008 21:40

I'm going to get a sugar maple tree for my yard soon. It'd be cool to be able to tap it someday.

I planted one of my two Asian pear trees. The other one will be on this weekend. They already seem to be starting to form pears, so I am pinching them off this first year.

That would be awesome. I planted a self-pollinating cherry tree last year. It seems to have survived and is budding right now. It's still a baby tree, though, will take a few years before it produces fruit.

That's really cool. What kind of cherry tree is it? I have a really tall, older cherry tree by my house, but it's some type of wild cherry. i.e., I don't think humans could eat it, but the tree people told me that animals--esp. birds-- eat the cherries, so that made me glad.

I love the idea of having stuff in your yard that you can eat but you don't have to replant every year. I'd like to have some sort of nut tree in the future.

You know I've forgot what kind of tree exactly it is. I know it's a tart cherry and it self pollinates. We had rented a house once with a similar tree and I picked the cherries and made pie with them. Yeah I love the idea of fruit trees right in the back yard. I'd like to have a garden too with some tomatoes, carrots, cucumbers, broccoli etc, but that seems like a lot of work. Would be nice, though.
