The new PS3 suck

Oct 06, 2007 07:30

Sony has announced that the 40GB version of the PS3 will enter the European market on Oct. 10th, for a price of €399 ($565). The unit sports only two USB ports (instead of four) and does not include the multi-memory ports. And, in a move we absolutely cannot understand, the new model is not backwards compatible with PS2 discs ( Read more... )

It's actually not that bad. I should have waited for the cheaper 40 gig PS3 with Spiderman.

You don't want to see PS2 games on an HDTV. It looks like absolute crap. Your far better to keep your PS2 and standard TV for old gen gaming. PS3 doesn't have PS2 controller ports so forget about Guitar Hero or DDR.

The problem is the $699 price tag we are paying for an inferior product.

$699 AU is around $630 USD at the current exchange rate. That is more than what you guys are paying for the 60GB version with all the extra stuff including the emotion engine chip.

It's all confusing as to why Sony has made so many different versions of the PS3 when they complained about the XBox haven't different SKU's.

Maybe it's because the PS2 here outsells the Wii at the moment as well. Maybe they're doing this to keep the PS2 sales happening...

...Honestly, the only PS2 games I play on my PS3 are RE4 and Xenosaga 3 (until I beat it....A YEAR AGO!). Other than that, Kon's right; most PS2 games look like shit in high def unless it's a game that came out really late in the PS2's lifespan...like RE4, and there's no standard PS2 ports for the controllers. The decent PS3 games are starting to come out now, and PS3 controllers with rumble added in are coming, too. Not to mention, if the harddrives are as easy to yank out as with the other versions of the PS3, you can upgrade your storage space for dirt cheap with a standard computer HDD.

I actually rather enjoy my PS3 and play it a lot more than our Wii; granted, I download most of my games *shrugs*. But, I wouldn't get a PS3 unless you really want one. If you're not sure you want one, DO NOT GET ONE; you don't want one and it's way too much money to spend on something you don't want :)

Well if I was to get a PS3, it would be a US version since they have an inbuilt transformer so it would work over here without problems, then I could import games from the states which are way cheaper.

Our aussie dollar just hit .90 US cents today as well! That's the highest I've ever seen it, yet we're still paying $999 for a PS3 here.
