[ There's a younger man in his early twenties standing alone, in his apartment room. He's pacing back and forth, looking around - the candy's already been discarded and the tape is sitting on the bed, apparently untouched

[The voice that replies is quiet, and cool when she speaks, even-tempered and almost bordering on apathy. Still, there's a truth in her words; she's not lying when she says it.]
[ Altair visibly jumps for a moment, then collects himself; artifacts, after all, aren't supposed to talk. He turns towards the communicator on the ground, picking it up slowly. It doesn't seem magical at all to him, but... ]
...what are you, then? [ As if he's addressing the communicator and not the person talking to him on it. Hey, intelligent weapons exist in Faerun; why not an intelligent trinket? ]
[After a moment, the screen flickers to reveal Konan, offering him a sleepy gaze, golden eyes watching him intently all the same. She doesn't smile, but politely dips her head all the same in greeting before speaking.]
The device you holds allows those within the apartments to speak with one another over distances. You are simply in a room, apart from others.

[ Altair glances down at the communicator, listening both to the voice and looking at the screen. He's able to control himself enough from a reaction when Konan appears - HELLO. Maybe this place isn't so bad. ]
Like a crystal ball, then? Except... not. I haven't really looked around yet; most of my equipment seems to be missing, and I can feel the undead here.
[ Altair is a relentless flirt usually, but somehow this seems like it's not the time for that. ]
Welcome to the Jigoku Apartments, this town's infested with ghosts, most of them will try to hurt you somehow. If they won't some of the other apartment tenants will. [She pauses, rubbing her forehead with one hand.]

[ Well, that's all nice to know. Altair smiles at the camera, then moves it so that the screen's pointing at the computer. Thankfully this is also the direction of the camera. ]
That there. I'm not familiar with such things.
Thank you for the help, by the way -- [ He swings the communicator back around to aim at him. ] What's your name?
That's a computer, it functions as magic tome, allowing you to communicate with others in the apartments. If you'd like, you can see if someone will come over to show you how it works.

Video. [ The way he pronounces it, the confused tone, pretty clearly indicates that he's not quite sure what that means. 'Fab', as well, is lost on him. ]
[The screen flickers on, Marno's face slightly red. Altair might notice that the boy gives off a heavy sense of both evil and undead, but at the same time a strangely pure and untouched soul. He gestures a little.]
Umm, welcome. The ghosts seem to have kidnapped you too. They appearantly do that a lot. I'm Marno, it's nice to meet you.
It appears so. If you take the whole of us as a group, they seem mainly attracted to those with power or differences. Then again, this whole place is beyond my experience...

Yes, that's true. I'm Altair Grayston. [ A small smile at the screen. ] And you are?

Name's Butterfly.

Is there anything else I should know about this place, other than the undead and the apparently randomly helpful attractive girls?

Which artifacts are you talking about?

As a magic tome? Like...
I think I have some idea, but I'd need someone to show me, I think. Could I have you come over, or would I have to find another person?

It's a phone, I had to get used to it too.
You're in Jigoku now, better get used to it.

Is that what this place is called? Jigoku? It sounds foreign to me. [ Of course, his definition of foreign and hers are probably very different. ]

I think it's Japanese or something, you're best asking one of the others for that.

I see... I guess I'll have to ask somebody, then.
[ Altair clearly doesn't, in fact, see. ]
