You and Kurama were walking together, side by side, to the mall. You looked forward a great deal to this date. Every little thing Kurama did for you made you exceptionally happy. Whenever he called your name you felt your heart skip a beat. Something about the way Kurama did it seemed to have a totally different meaning in your head.
"I guess that's what it means to be in love," you thought. A smiled curled on your lips; you couldn't stop the excitement of just being with Kurama. When you got to the mall Kurama told you to find a seat and he'll buy the food. You nodded your head and went off to find seats for the two of you. You didn't look for seats for too long. When you found an empty table for two you ran over to claim the table. Not that much later Kurama found you and placed the food down then sat down right across from you.
While you were talking to Kurama, you felt him put his hand on yours and felt his hand tighten a bit. You looked at him in curiosity to see he had his protective gaze on. Kurama was staring at someone behind you. You let your curiosity get the better of you again, and from the corner of your eyes look to see who he was staring at. When you looked, you could see it was a group of boys and they seemed to be whispering something to each other. Obviously they were saying something to make Kurama uptight, but you wondered what it was they were saying that could make Kurama loose his usual cool composure.
"Kurama, what's wrong?" you asked.
"Those boys," Kurama replied.
"Care to be a bit more specific than that?" you joked.
"They think you're cute and are wondering if you're single or not," Kurama said.
"Kurama," you said in a tone to let him know to look you in the eyes.
"Hmm?" Kurama fixed his gaze upon you, and right when he did, you kissed him on the lips.
"I think that will answer their question," you smiled.
"I believe it does," Kurama chuckled. You could see he wasn't expecting the kiss, but you could tell he definitely enjoyed it. You couldn't stop thinking about the boys now. You didn't find any one of them attractive; to you, nothing could ever compete with Kurama. He was the perfect ideal boyfriend in your opinion. It wasn't really the boys you couldn't stop thinking about, but what they said.
"'Cute'?" you thought to yourself. This wasn't the first time someone called you cute. Most people will just accept it and say "Thank you" but you are different. You wondered why. What made you "cute"? You would always ask your friends, but they could never really give you an answer. "You just are." Or "What makes you cute is by asking that." That sounded incredibly illogical since the person who called you cute never heard you say that, so how did that make you cute? This is why you prefer people not calling you cute, you would just get so fixated on trying to figure out what makes you cute. Thinking about this topic always made your brain start hurting.
"[Name], are you alright?" Kurama asked.
"Yeah, I'm just giving myself a headache," you replied.
"Is there anything I can do? " Kurama's tone was filled with concern. He never liked seeing you in pain.
"Not really. It's more of a thought I can't seem to grasp," you stated.
"Well, why don't you tell me? Maybe I can help you figure out," Kurama suggested. You never did ask Kurama about the cute issue. You were always too embarrassed to ask him. But he is your boyfriend, he should know better than anyone else.
"What makes me cute?" you asked.
"Pardon?" Kurama said, he was taken aback by your question. He apparently didn't see it coming at all.
"You said those boys thought that I was cute, so I was wondering what makes me cute," you replied.
"What brought this on so suddenly?" Kurama asked.
"It's not that sudden," you replied.
"So you've been holding out on me?" Kurama teased.
"No, it was just that…" you trailed off.
"'Just'?" Kurama repeated.
"I was embarrassed," you admitted, you felt so embarrassed telling him this; you could feel the heat rush to your face.
"You're so cute at times," Kurama chucked.
"Kurama, you said you would help me, not escalate the problem," you said.
"[Name], to me everything about you is cute," Kurama replied.
"But why?" you asked.
"[Name], to you, what is your definition of cute?" Kurama asked.
"Well according to the dictionary, cute means endearingly attractive in the way that some young children and animals are," you replied. "… I'll admit to looking it up, so I could try figure out what they meant."
"The first words in your definition are 'endearingly' and 'attractive', basically when someone is calling you cute they're saying you've done something endearingly attractive, like the ten shades of red on your face right now in incredibly cute," Kurama teased, pushing some of your hair out of your face.
"Well then, why did you get so jumpy and protective if that's what it means?" you asked.
"Because it can also means they can find you endearingly attractive and want to date you," Kurama replied.
"And that's a problem why?" you asked. If you have no interest in them, should it really matter if they wanted to date you? They weren't going to if you're not interested.
"Let's not forget that old habits die hard, and as a former thief I am very protective over my most valuable treasures," Kurama replied and kissed you lightly on the lips. "And you are by far my most valuable treasure of all time."
