Lindsay rolled over and groaned. She didn’t even have to look to know she hadn’t managed to sleep more than a couple of hours. Raising her head in an effort to focus, she realized that it had been the sound of the television in the room next door that had roused her.

Recognizing the tune and the dialogue, she dropped her head back into the pillow and groaned again. After several minutes, she sighed, knowing that she wouldn’t be able to return to sleep with the ever-present cheery voices filtering through the door. Throwing off the comforter, she plodded to the door.

Peering groggily into the living room, she found her partner sitting on the floor in her pyjamas, animatedly following along with the cartoon on the screen.

“Cindy.”

“Hi hon, I didn’t wake you up, did I?”

Rubbing her eyes, Lindsay grumbled, “It’s the middle of May, Cindy.”

“Yes, well -.” Cindy gave her best glowing smile.

“Why the hell are you watching Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer in the middle of May?”

The redhead’s smile faltered somewhat and she ducked her head. “Um… research?” she said tentatively.

If she hadn’t looked so cute, so much like a small child who had snuck out of bed to watch Saturday morning cartoons, Lindsay might have throttled her. In fact, she contemplated haranguing the little reporter about disturbing her sleep. Instead, she simply gave an unintelligible grunt and plodded back to bed.
