Anyone else surprised that Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles has, so far, been a decent show?  Summer Glau still seems like too much of an automaton, and the guy playing John has been barely distinguishable from an extra (though, to be fair, he hasn't been given much to do yet).  Lena Headey, on the other hand, has been great.  More ( Read more... )

A little surprised, but it is a perfect storm of sci fi themes. Hot chicks. Time Travel. Robots. Action. Robot trying to become more human. End of the world stakes.

I think it would have been a better mini-series than a continuing show though. I'm not sure they can keep up the peril indefinitely.

I've been very pleasantly surprised. Fox went really big-budget with the FX, which has helped. Headey has been awesome.

I thought the latest episode was a little bit deus-ex-machina (really? all you have to do to kill a terminator is unscrew something in his skull? they're just now figuring it out?) but otherwise I have few complaints. It will be interesting to see how they extend it out more than a season.

But they already knew that - "Good Arnold" in T2 made Sarah lower him into the molten metal to destroy the chip in his head. "I cannot self-terminate, you must lower me into the steel", and all that. Summer Glau just made it a simpler task being, well, a Terminator. :-)

Befpre the show aired I kept hoping it wouldn't suck, and I'm happy that it doesn't. I'm definitely going to keep watching it. I like Lena Headey as Sarah a lot, and I've liked Summer Glau since Firefly. Thomas Dekker (the guy playing John) is take-it-or-leave-it for me - I'd like to see him get more to do, but of course the show isn't "The John Connor Chronicles". :)
