nuvaring

I have decided to try to stop birth control. I've been on several types, and stayed with the nuvaring for years as it is my favorite. I would keep it in for 4 weeks and replace immediately... I haven't had a period in over a year! I do that because the 'placebo week' was particularly bad for my migraines, and the docs agree that it's perfectly ( Read more... )

Well I've been on HBC for 8 years so I'm not useful on that front but I just wanted to tell you to be prepared for side effects coming off the nuva ring. I felt like I was losing my mind when I took mine out and the symptoms continued for a few weeks. (Supposedly that doesn't happen to everyone and I often thought I was going crazy when I was using it so maybe you'll be fine!)

What are you going to do instead?

The Sponge is back on the market... I'm going to try it. Also, we never had a problem using condoms, so they may come back into play.

When you went off nuvaring, did you have a few weeks without HBC? What did you switch to?

I started taking Quasense (generic version of Seasonale) about 3 weeks after I stopped the nuvaring. I would have started right away on the new stuff but I couldn't get to a doctor in time unfortunately.

I'd be very curious to hear about the sponge!

My mother swears by the sponge... apparently, it's all she ever used when she was fertile.

I was on estrogen birth control for almost ten years before the docs took me off (for the auras, just like you!). Now I'm on a progesterone-only pill, which kind of sucks for multiple reasons, but strokes suck way more, so I hear.

I could talk about menstruation all day and night, but two main things are:

1: You might think you are going insane/the only one who really understands Ulysses (or Twin Peaks, or Lord of the Rings, or or 2001: A Space Odyssey, you get the idea)/the Second Coming/some combination of any of these. I withdrew from people for like a month when I stopped the estrogen pill and kind of wound up in fights with my boyfriend and all my closest friends for about a month. I'm always reluctant to blame "hormonal" stuff, because I think that's so often used as a scapegoat, but dude. For realz. It fucks with you ( ... )

Also, you will get horny a fuck. It'll settle down after a month or so. At least Boyfriend can't complain about that. ;)

did you notice any changes in your migraines post BC? Worse, better, unchanged?

I think better, actually. But I don't get them as badly as you do.

I get very bad seasonal migraines at the beginning of the fall, and I think it was better this year. Other times of the year, oddly, it's not much of an issue.
