In Memory of Fred Kottman, 1899 - 1918, Killed on the Somme, 1st September 1918Fred was my great-great-uncle, my great grandmother's brother. He was a rifleman of the London Regiment, in the 21st Surrey Rifles, and was killed in the First World War in France. it is so sad that they're so young. a whole generation was just wiped out :(

its also sad hearing about the last survivors, who are all 108 - 110 i think...to think that so many of their friends died age 20, and they have lived to such a great age...really shows how much potential was lost, in such a short time...

sorry, i do go on about it a bit, but its something which seems to affect me quite a bit, especially since I've known about Fred Kottman and his part in the war.
