We're are past the half way point with the deadline on the 26th. Some participants are chugging along, some have finished stories, but some of us might need a little inspiration! Here are a few links to some spooky treats that might get you in the mood for writing thrills and chills for Halloween:
The Baker Street Record by
featherfish -- Sherlock Holmes/House of Leaves crossover. Hey, don't run away! Even if you haven't read House of Leaves and only have a general idea of who Sherlock Holmes is, this story is CREEPY and it still stands on its own. Knowing the canon of either or both will add extra layers, of course, but it still works as original fiction if you want to read it that way. The story is surreal, disorienting, and just plain CREEPY. Read it alone at night, if you dare!
Hey There Cthulhu: The Photomontage Video -- This is more funny than scary but some of the images may be a bit yucky for some, but lots of tentacles for those writing Tentacle Monsters!
The Slender Man: New Urban Legend -- This is very hard to describe, but go to that page by
pinstripesuit and you'll get a good explanation as well as links to The Slender Man vids. And I have to tell you, it kind of freaked me out, and I didn't even watch a third of them. I started seeing things out of the corner of my eyes. That was the end of that! LOL
Scary Webtoon -- Believe me, you don't have to read Japanese to get a good scare out of this. Just slooowly scroll down. You can follow the action through the artwork. There is a moment about half way down and another at the end. And believe me, even knowing what's coming, it'll still startle you every time.
There Are Monsters -- This short film doesn't take long to watch, but still packs a punch. Chilling! An official selection for the 2008 London Film Festival.
That's it for now! If you have something spooky/chilling/scary that you'd like to share, feel free to rec it in the comments. Books, vids, fanfic, music, anything goes!
And if you just want to yell at me for scaring you, that works too! LOL
